Oh Leana, you must have a few cocktails to make it a little more bearable. Maybe we could pass out some toiletries?

I was at first amused to read about the leathery B.O. stinking desert rats but further on read the more lengthy posts that actually covered some more substantial beefs about our state.
I couldn't agree more that illegal immigration (from everywhere) makes Arizona a very tough place to make a decent living. I have nothing against immigration, my own kids are FIRST GENERATION but uncontrolled, ILLEGAL immigration has to be stopped for the good of ALL our society. We are a sovereign nation and should enforce our border as such. Guest workers from WW II are still residing on US soil so that's a ruse that we should avoid. We should begin with employers who exploit these illegals and landlords who house them and in pretty short order the illegals would diminish. Heavy fines for employers and landlords would dry up work and housing would work. People continue their bad behavior until the consequences make it no longer worthwhile.
Emergency rooms are NOT primary care and services for illegals not suffering life-threatening conditions should begin with notifying ICE and promptly beginning their processing after treatment and send them back where they came from "Anchor Babies" included If you're illegal, your KIDS are illegal.Like any other bad fruit from a bad tree.
I've heard that during the census, that immigration enforcement should be curtailed; au contraire...it should be even MORE vigorous. Let's count 'em as we ship 'em off. If they want to come here to this great Melting Pot, let them get their papers in order like the rest of us had to. Right now there are SO many Homegrown Americans seeking employment that ALL immigration and H1 visas need to be curtailed so that first we put our own back to work. Sure, it sounds harsh but charity begins at home. Our neighbors don't have a problem with promptly deporting trespassers from their borders and neither should we. Sure, I feel for those folks who came thousands of miles often on foot but am more concerned for my neighbors who are losing their homes because they can't find a job and their kids who sometimes don't see their folks much because they're carrying 3 jobs to support their family due to illegals depressing local wages.
Other than that, Arizona's GREAT!! if you don't count being near the bottom in education, near the top in identity theft, dropouts and teen pregnancy. Then...Its up to US to bring up our kids...
But DAMN...its so PRETTY here..... I think I'll stay and try to improve it as much as one guy can...

It's not that I don't like Arizona, It just takes some getting used too. Being from the South meaning North Carolina people are not as friendly and to be honest can be very lazy when it comes to a work ethic. Just my opinion so far...... hope AZ changes my mind!

The Mexican people for the most part are a very good people. It sux that the US doesn't help Mexicans by getting rid of their government and allow them to rebuild. Mexicans want to be Mexicans not Americans but with such a corrupt government I can't blame them for wanting to get out.

I am an AZ "native" but went into the Military, and then to the Pacific Northwest for work for many years.

Coming back is like "Welcome to Arizona, turn back your clock 15 years" in the following ways:

1) Women still act incredibly sexualized. In Seattle and Portland, acting like a pinup or doll is "cheap" and stupid.

2) On every corner there appears to be a "head shop". In Oregon it's legal to have a small amount of MJ, but NONE do it. Here in AZ, everyone turns a blind eye, so even professional people partake of the 420. Just say KNOW!

3) After 9PM on weekends and holidays, it's very unsafe to drive, for all the drunks out rolling around. In the Pacific Northwest, California, Nevada the police WORK even staking out bars.

4) People in AZ still have illusions it's safe to have unprotected sex. Does the heat really burn away all that ickiness too?

But I LOVE AZ for it's "freedom". It's something you can't really quantify. In other states, citizens are routinely strip searched when stopped by traffic cops. However, "probable cause" is seriously respected here. Of course, now post 911, when we are suspected of anything, our cell phones are monitored anyway, so our police state certainly KNOWS very well and good before interceding to arrest citizens.

I also love seeing those hard, sane, surviving old ladies everywhere, living the ranch life. The women are more beautiful in AZ than anywhere in the world, and the men more respectful.

Once the desert gets into your soul and calls itself home, you are destined to live in Sun City at 80!

Single women here are shallow and wouldn't recognize a good man if he crept up behind them and bit them on their derriere.
