Sycamore is in Dekalb, Co. IL. It is about 50 miles West of Chicago. It is the county seat and is known for the "Sycamore Pumpkin Festival".

As far as the history of DeKalb County...

When George Rogers Clark visited northern Illinois on a military mission in the late 1700s he included in his report that the area had the best farm country in the world. Clark was not wrong and DeKalb County still has some of the richest soil in northern Illinois and therefore the world. Agriculture shaped the history of this county and its development. Native Americans of the area were growing corn long before the European setters arrived. Barbed wire was invented in DeKalb or Waterman depending on who's case is stronger in your perspective. One of the first industries to introduce the area to the Industrial Age was Marsh Harvester in Sycamore. The "flying ear of corn" sign (photo) seen along the highways across this country has made the name "DEKALB" known throughout the world. Although "DeKalb Ag" has been through many changes over the years, including its recent acquisition by Monsanto, descendants of its founding families still call DeKalb County home. Thanks to a proactive county government and cooperative municipal governments, agriculture will continue to shape the future of this county in the 21st century.

ScrubRN08 Decatur, Illinois USA
Well, Decatur is the birthplace of the Grand Army of the Republic, Named after Commodore Stephen Decatur, We're the former home of the Chicago Bears- they used to be the Staley Bears, and the former Soybean Capital of the world. There are lots of books written about how Decatur is one of the most haunted cities in IL, I think. Home of Millikin University, and I believe the 2005 IHSA high school womens basketball champs. Oh, and we had a gang brawl at a high school football game which led to about 9 kids being expelled for 2 years. Jesse Jackson came and tried to get the kids who were expelled back into school. He lost and snipers came and were stationed on top of the school because of all the fighting about it.

Near Gurnee so my area is known for the pain in the butt traffic during the summmer for Great America, Gurnee mills mall, shopping galore at the intersections of Hunt Club road and 132, along with Hunt Club Farms (Rich and famous people live here). Gurnee is also known for the fantastic school district and the Warren High School Blue Devils. But we cant forget our ever so popular regular flooding Deplains River that washes us out at least once a year (or so it seems).
I remember this area when it was all farmers feilds for miles. Now along with all the stores is every single make of a car dealership that you can think of. Need a car? Come to Gurnee!!!

WildNCrazy Pekin, Illinois USA
The first settler was Jonathan Tharp in 1824. Tharp opened a smokehouse in 1827, and in 1829 the town was laid out and named Pekin by the wife of Nathan Cromwell, one of the city's founders, for Peking (Beijing), China, which was at that time spelled "Peking" or "Pekin," spellings still common in German and French.
We are also known for the Illinois high school (Pekin) whose Chinese name resulted in a team nickname of Chinks, dating from the early 1900s. We were unaware of how demeaning the name was to Chinese. Pekin has had no Chinese residents. As someone pointed out, had we been from Rome high school, it would have been like calling ourselves Dagos. So the name was changed to Dragons in 1981.

These are some famous people born in Pekin
Scott D. Altman, astronaut
Mark Staff Brandl, artist
Sol Bloom (1870–1949), entertainment and popular music entrepreneur who billed himself as "Sol Bloom, the Music Man" and served for many years in the United States House of Representatives
Wyllis Cooper, writer for radio
Susan Dey, actress
Everett McKinley Dirksen, congressman and senator
Ethyl Eichelberger (1945-1990), influential figure in experimental theater
Brad Elvis, rock 'n' roll drummer
Th. Emil Homerin, scholar of religion and mysticism
Mike Isenberg, musician: member of 1970s Pekin rock group The Jets
The Jets, 1970s rock band (different than The Jets from Minneapolis)
Larry Kenney, actor
John T. McNaughton, Harvard Law School professor and Vietnam War planner
D.A. Points, professional golfer
Ormond Stone (1847-1933), astronomer, mathematician, and educator

Hey All!
About 10mi north of where I am is the water tower that is shaped and painted to look like a ketchup bottle. Another 20mi further is where Lewis &Clark began their expedition west.

Oneandonly Decatur, Illinois USA
Hi All,

Being from Decatur, we are proud of the fact that we were the original home of the Chicago Bears. They were founded by George Halas and he took them to Chicago for an exhibition game in 1919 and they drew such a big crowd that he moved them to Chicago in 1920. They were originally known as the Decatur Staleys.applause applause applause

1955 Ray A.Kroc, 52, opens his first McDonald's in Des Plaines, Ill. The first
day's take: $366.12. Kroc, a distributor of milk shake mixers, figures he can
sell a bundle of them if he franchises the McDonalds' business and install his
