Well I live in the Pekin area a honestly I have no clue what my town is known for.

U. S. Celular Collisium it is the biggest eye sore.

12m outside Chicago, so we are known for hot dogs and gangs..

Mattoon is known for the BagelFest

Batavia: Windmills and Aldi Foods headquarters.

Okay... I currently live in the village that used to be home to Chanute AFB. Now it is known for a few factories (Conair and Bell Helmets) but there are alot of closed factories and many people out of work. Dare I say another small town that is slowly dying due to the closing of major businesses.

The town were I was born (which is less than 20 miles away) is known for the University of Illinois. Even though the university began on agricultural foundings, it has become an international force for the computer science, library and academics. And of course the athletics department has given us such people as Mike Ditka, Dave Butkus, Deron Williams of the Utah Jazz and Dee Brown (who is currently playing abroad). And it shouldn't surprise you that we are thrilled to see the Fighting Illini in the Rose Bowl in 2008.
Some other people that this area is known for are Bonnie Blair, Allison Kraus, REO Speedwagon (who got their start while at the U of I) and many nobel peace prize winners including 10 who won this year along with Al Gore.
Other than that, Champaign-Urbana is known for being a medium sized city with a small town atmosphere. If you want to shop, bank, get fuel for your vehicle, eat or see a movie, there are always alot of options available to you. During the summer there are quite a few events at the parks but during the winter it is pretty dead, unless you are into cross-country skiing and we are lucky enough to have some snow! But be forewarned... watch out during the spring and fall for tornados... we are right in tornado alley!

Okay, now that I have totally bored you with more than you wanted to know... lol... have a Merry Christmas!

Hmmm Danville, I guess for losing all businesses and becoming a ghost town. We will soon become an retirement town full of senior citizens and retirement homes (I have nothing against ether one). We even have the morgue across the street from the cemetery which is across a small field from the retirement homes. I'll let you think about that for a moment.

I'm new here but Rockford is nicknamed CRACKford, It has the highest unemployment in the state and the roads are horrible

My hometown was declared the most depressing town to live in in the whole united states Letterman did a top ten about us and gave us 2 gazebos which we display proudly. Also alot of movies have been shot around this area

I grew up in Carpentersville, IL. It is only a short drive from Aurora, Il where Wayne's World was set. When I was a teen in the eighties, my life and friends were damn near exactly like Wayne's World. I had a stoner boyfriend who talked exactly like Wayne. I knew some guys who looked exactly like Garth, and the tall one with black hair who kept saying he loved the other guys. There are STILL adults who look, and act like that on the local dating sites!!! I went to Aurora a few years ago. There really is a giant video arcade in an old warehouse out there. I didn't see the donut shop, though. My old boyfriend even used to play 'Bohemian Rhapsody' when we drove around at night.

Chicago, the Windy City, known for their long-winded, full of hot air politicians.

Well our SMALL town does have a dirt race track that runs on Friday nights.

Ottawa.

Ottawa was the site of the first of the Lincoln-Douglas debates of 1858.

Ottawa is also the home and final resting place of the founder ot the Boy Scouts, William D Boyce.

Ottawa is known as the scenic gateway to Starved Rock State Park, the most popular state park in Illinois, with some 2 million visitors per year. The Fox River, which flows through communities like Elgin and Aurora empties into the Illinois in downtown Ottawa. Ottawa is also home to one of the largest skydiving operations in the country, Skydive Chicago.
