I've noticed over the years I've lived here, which has been all my life, I've found people from Massachusetts to be downright nasty and getting worse.
Everybody is really pissed off here.
The state doesn't get much done as far as growth and infrastructure is concerned, because the bigwig politicians and CONNECTED city workers (nepotism?)steal off the top of the budgets designated for development and no one does a thing about it.
Everybody in the country knows about the "BIG DIG" fiasco, and all the money that was wasted and or stolen. So WHAT DO THEY DO?.. they build the tunnels and bridges with inferior cement and other cheap materials to save money as they pocket the rest.
Housing and heating costs are so through the roof, it's insane.
Massachusetts has been resting on it's laurels for decades and it sucks.
I realize other states are corrupt, but it can't be any worse than this, or can it?
I gotta get outta this place. very mad
If anyone would like to throw their two cents in, feel free.
This should be very interesting.

Me, too! Don't generalize, people, haha. I heard that NY and Canada are worse. Post in your profile that you seek someone who is not negative, and that should ward them off. If you are a positive, forward thinking person, the same will generate toward your direction ;-)

Ciao!

I have lived here all my life and I am a sweetheartpurple heart
Actually lots of states have much higher taxes than we do here.
I have to say though that pretty much all the people I have met here from the same state have been not so nice.sigh

I believe that if there is any truth to this asshole thing, it is that most everyone is stressed out from all the money problems and taxes and so on. There certainly are many assholes, both guy and girl alike. But I think as stated before me, this is everywhere, not just Ma. Another thing I noticed over the years is there is a lack of things to do. So generally speaking, going to a bar or something like that is just about the only way to stay social. There are the rare private parties every now and again. Mainly though, meeting people ends up usually being in an environment that brings out bad character(s). My ex-girlfriend of 3 years was bored with our mundane home life and started going out until all hours of the morning and shit like that. This I did not agree with. I know why she did it, but it didn't make it right. So when I tried to persuade her not to be like that, it usually ended in arguing. Eventually I decided to ask her to leave which she did and within a week, was seeing someone else. Within 1 month was living with them, and within 1 year, was back on the phone with me saying how I was right and how maybe we should get back together. Its hard not to feel angry at the world sometimes and I think anyone who treats their significant other poorly doesn't deserve to have a significant other. My two cents.

Massachusetts has a lot of drawbacks- It is unbelievably expensive to live here. The weather is awful too. I find that the people here are fine. I like people in MA.
A lot of what bothers people about this state is a result of the peculiarities of Massachusetts' politics and culture. Here are some of the ideas currently governing much of the state.
(1) Smoking is one of the worst crimes on earth
(2) Anyone who owns a gun has lost all humanity, and gone totally over to the dark side. The 2nd Amendment has been basically abolished in MA.
(3) Every job, no matter how small, must be done by a high-priced specialist. I mow my own lawn and paint my own house, even repair my roof. Each bit of work I do is met by dark warnings of what horrible things will befall me if I "fail to hire a professional"
(4) In the rest of the country, if beavers flood your land, you kill them. If you find a porcupine eating your vegetables, you kill him. Here the Animal Rights people rule, so if you kill these pests, you have to take care not to get caught.
(5) No anti-Catholic sentiment is too extreme. If you accidently reveal that you went to mass, you are met with insults about pedophile priests. The people who were born Catholic are the worst offenders here.
(6) You mostly can't buy beer in convenience stores and supermarkets.
(7) The people are surprisingly parochial and provincial in their outlook. I have a strong Western Mass accent, basically a slightly mid-western sounding upstate New York accent, and people often ask me if I am from the south.
(8) 75% of all college students in the Us attend state colleges, but in Mass, they act as if state colleges are for dummies only.
(9) Feminism rules here. It has its good and bad points. One good point is that women don't always instantly expect you to go broke picking up the tab for eveything, and work 14 hours a day so they can stay home and watch All My Children etc.

Yeah, this place really really blows. Everyone i know hates it here. The govt. is corrupt, the taxes suck, they have been steady-removing anything good in my town for the past 10 years. Crime is up 400% since the bush presidency, even more since obama, and in just 13 minutes cigarettes are going up another $1
The only good thing about massofchewedshitts is that question two passed on the presidential ballot, decriminalizing less than 1 ounce of cannabis. At least now those drugged up kids who rob fast food stores wont get arrested for a lil green.

I am also a mass. resident. I work there and have a family there, however, I leave every chance I can get.I'm in Prov. R.I right now, and this state is fucked up. So much coruption,so many serious issues, Mass in my opinion - can't be any worse than Rhode Island.

MA is too expensive. A lot of the high cost of everything in MA is due to ferociously strict zoning restrictions which make everything expensive. You have very few mobile homes. You see few large apartment buildings, other than luxury apartments or elderly housing. You certainly don't see large apartment buildings with inexpensive apartments filled with middle-class people, the way you do in a lot of the country. A lot of towns have minimum lot sizes.
In recent years, it has been difficult to get approval to build anything in many places except large single-family homes, retail stores, and offices. It is hard to get approval to build any of these often useful things- apartment buildings, factories, landfills, junkyards, public transportation.

I lived here all my life. I always took pride in being a Bostonian! As for the state in general, I'm getting tired of the high taxes, the crazy politics, and the cold winters. frustrated The only thing left for me is my sports teams! Even if I moved to Africa, I'm a Boston sports fan forever! cheering
