curly1969: By the way, anyone really good with Engine Electrical systems. I was driving the jeep this a.m. and my check gauges light went on. only gauge that was showing problems was the battery gauge. showing no charge.
I may find some means of help for nothing more than a few beers and a pizza?!??????????
Check the alternator connections if the battery ones are tight. It could be a bad plug connector. Look for signs of corrosion or broken or loose wires on the plugs themselves. If you see green in the wires or there are other signs of corrosion ( a whiteish powder), try splicing the wire. If I remember correctly, there is a wire that comes from the alt to the starter as well, check the starter for a weak ground or loose nut.
Otherwise it might be a computer problem, or voltage regulator...which should be inside the alternator. You can take the car to Checker Auto, they will let you use a hand held diagnostics scanner to check the Fault code. That might help a lot by narrowing it down. It SHOULD be a free service, at least it is down here in Shakopee, but you will have to do the hook ups of the scanner for liability reasons. If they have time, they should be willing to do the reading for you after you hook it up. Just ask them.
Places, including Checker Auto will bench check the alt if it's removed, and many places too, will run a check on the "charging" system for free while the alt is still in the car. Just ask around.
Start with the connections I mentioned first. Then move for the scanner next, looking for a fault code. Then you have the other two options when you have the results from the scan...if it tells you anything.
Now email that pizza, but send pop, I'm not big on beer any more.
