I noticed this question in another forum so I thought I might shed some light. I dont run backgrounds on people I haven't met, but the world is an evil place and I think most women should just to protect themselves. Before I say anything else, Remember that people have the ability to change, and there may be circumstances that you wont know about behind any charges. Its just a tool to protect yourself by having knowledge of what could be. If you find anything the best thing you can do is ask that person to tell you about it.
OK, this is a link to county courthouses in the state of Ohio http://www.clelaw.lib.oh.us/Public/Misc/Muni_Ct.html
By going to this site and picking the right county or city, you can look under public access and type in a first and last name. Any criminal record in that county will show up. They also post a birth date so you dont get confused with two people that have the same name. These site normally show criminal and civil cases.
You can also look at County Auditors for property owned, and county jails usually have a web site also, I know that Southeast Regional Jail does.
Last but least there is Zabasearch.com which list past addresses, This last site is normally way out of date, but on occasion can be helpful.
Hope this helps some people out.

Wow .... is dating that bad ? I would find it "creepy" if someone did a background check on me just to go out on a date. Then again .. hope they would bring the info on the date .. would be a little ego boost. I could go .. yes I own that and that and yes that tenant sued me and that tenant sued me and both lost then that is my counterclaims which I won and got this new plasma. Then I could do my little victory dance in the restaurant. haha

Back to reality ... would still find it creepy and find that person a little paranoid. And really ... who likes crazy.
If you want to background check me, you need to make sure you spell my name properly. It's Girl Next Dor Mouse. I know it's weird I have two middle names, but if you just background check Girl Next Mouse, you get a totally different person. Same with Next Dor Mouse.
I don't know, must be a common last name. dunno

Good advice for some to follow. There are also other ways to get info both free and for a price. There are also tips that are somewhat common sense but people don't use them.Like 1st meeting,a public place only.Take separate cars to meet.Never invite a date you just met recently in for coffe, unless you have something else on your mind.Of course even then, you may be in danger. Also if you have children you are endangering them ossibly.Probably not,but is it a chance you want to take.Meet in day hours only.Be clear with the person before going out where is the relationship now and is it going to be a hug good night or more.Always make sure someone knows where yur going to meet and approx. when you will get home.If person seems to be somewhat threatening in manner, intoxicated,or talks about what you consider inapropriate, even that gut feeling go with it.Excuse yourself and leave by a way that he/she can see your going to car.
Okay Parker I know you will attempt to make this post look humorous or stupid. This advice is for men too. There are many men bring a girl home for the night and woke up with a empty house.Better careful than not.If a man gets upset by your setting rules, say whatif it were your sister o mom?

This is all excellent advice.

I wish I would have had this advice when I first started dating back in 1998 and was using the internet as my means for a dating tool.

I have paid for not having this advice and made these same rules as I had my positive and negative experiences. They are good to have! And always remember to go by your intuition or gut instinct - it is usually right!! cool

Not paranoid really, just being informed.
I've met men that say they have no criminal history, yet I have found it, have said they were only married once, and have found they were married 3+ times, domestic violence charges against them, restraining orders and so on. So i definately will to protect myself and my family from a predator or someone who has been arrested 3 times for hitting their past 3 wives.

Where I am from, our courts are extremely user friendly. Most of them have websites with the search function, and you can do background search on anybody FREE OF CHARGE. Spelling does not really matter, as court clerks can misspell names, too, so you should get creative and allow for this. I once did a background search on a man whom I was about to meet; I found two domestic violence charges on him, so needless to say I never met him. For that reason, I will only date the local men, and will look them up in the courts. All of them. Ditto for men, you can't be too careful nowadays. Just my 2 cents worth. wave
