"For me i dont recall anything in primary school"
What I recall is basically being thought little bit’s of the buffered kid’s version of Catholicism , one of the main things I recall is being thought it as if it was fact the same way that I was thought that 1+1=2

"as for secondary we had a religion class taught by the school priest who had no idea how to control teenagers"

Ironically being in a CBS I never had a brother teach my religion class (there where only 2 brothers left when I was there) I recall during the first few years it was almost like well we have to teach it so we will just throw any old teacher in the classroom with a few hand outs and some 70’s films showing the power of Jesus saving a gang member from a life of crime up till the jc I think I had the same teacher he was a nice man (you could tell he cared about what he was doing) but had not a clue about handling children, after the jc it changed as they geared up to teach it as an exam subject , there where more discussions , we had up dated text book’s and we looked at other religions , saying that we looked at them in an almost dismissive manner, at one point we did a different religion each week , we only covered a few of the main ones (3 or 4) and then one week we did “cult‘s” rolling eyes To cut along story short the teacher knew almost nothing about the religions she called cult’s it was horrendous I ended up correcting her every 2 minutes until it basically turned into a questions and answers where she was asking me (at that time I was known for my interest in the less mainstream religions)

I think it is just about just about imposable for religion to be thought un an unbiased way in one school let alone a whole country

I would be very interested to know how and what was taught for religion in your days at school.

I unfortunately had to live with the catholic church. Trust me, I wouldn't recommend it to any one.

I went a convent. The teachers were nice enough. We had a nun for religion up to 3rd year. She was more concerned with making sure we innocent little girls stayed innocent little girls. (I think she did a good job with that lol)

We had a lay-teacher in 5th and 6th year. She was excellent. She encouraged questions. She spoke about more than catholicism. She was not afraid to tell us she didn't know something. If she didn't know she would ask us if it was important to us. If yes she would research and cover the subject next class. If not that important to us she would tell us where to get info if we wanted it.

nahhh mate Im not biased and for the record Im not dim witted...... if ur an athiest then u subscribe to a core belief: atheisim=the doctrine or belief that there is no God.

If u don't beleive thats a religion.... why dont u check what comes under RELIGIOUS BELIEFS when u did up ur profile,,,,, lol

Man if Im dim witted ur Frank Drebin on speed. There was no need for the personal attack mate... I was just giving an opinion like evryone else.

Just for the record... for the biased remark.... I have gay friends, atheist friends, muslim friends, baptist friends..... funnily enough, they don't attack me.

Something tells me u like ur opinion and no one else'suh oh!

PS Id still give u a hi five anyhows!!!

HandyRex, Crotalus appears to argue just for the sake of arguing. It seems if you don't agree with him he considers that you are wrong.

If your Catholic faith is important to you then it is important to you. I have a very strong faith in God and that is important to me.

People are entitled to their own beliefs. They do not, however, have the right to belittle or undermine others who do not share those beliefs.

hey wex.... cheers!!!.. My faith is important.. well in the sense that I go to mass every sunday lol..... Im a catholic yeah but probs one of the worst ones out there u name it ive done it so Im no hypocrite lollaugh

Ur right though no one has the right to belittle anyonee's beliefs no matter what. Full on and I totally agree with u. Whatever way someone believes in God is cool by me just as whatever way someone believes in anything else is cool by me.

As far as Im concerned anyone judgemental enough to belittle or undermine one's beliefs, because they dont share them.... needs a slap... bottom line. Thats intolerance. Something I can't stand. -:)

yeah funny that, i've just entrusted the boy the the cbs here because its the least religious of all the schools

handyrex:
"if ur an athiest then u subscribe to a core belief: atheisim=the doctrine or belief that there is no God."

i beg to differ. its not a belief, that's the point. as a scientist i don't believe anything until i have proof. if someone proves that a god exists i will believe it.

of course no-one ever will. those that believe in a god explicitly don't want to prove anything because they have adopted faith instead. those that have no need for the concept of a deity would no more set about trying to prove it one way or the other than they would stand on their head at a bus stop.

my view is that religion is something that happens inside someone's head. if they externalize it and use it as a basis for effecting change on the world then its politics. i therefore regard the catholic church, church of england, judaism, islam etc etc as political and economic organizations... indulgence anyone ?
