We voted NO to the Lisbon Treaty

BUT

French President Nicolas Sarkozy said we need to vote on another referendum on the Lisbon Treaty.

IRELAND SAID NO

How come a french man can tell us what to do....

Did't hear the full extent of wht Sarkozi said. But I think pulling out of the EU would be detrimental to the future of the state.

No we shouldnt pull out of the EU it would be disasterous for this country especially with the impending rescession.

Frenchy cant tell us sh!t hes just in a huff he didnt get his way and will be gone from the limelight in 4 months time.

It apparently will be put to us again because it was a good deal and perhaps the proper information will be circulated this time for an informed descion.

It will be more the government want this to go through as well as the EU so it will be both parties telling us what to do.

Had the treaty passed their was for the first time (i thinnk) a statment in it that said any country can leave at anytime. At the moment i dont think there is a mechanism to get out (as always open to corrections)

The penalty for pulling out is probably trade tariffs to countries within the EU the loss of grants and the EU giving us a bolliking and of course the country going back 30 years.

The Irish people should pull out of the EU, we are quite capable of running our country our selves. Simply, give the land back to the Irish people and let us grow our own food. Since joining the EEC our society has gone down hill rapidly and has disintegrated our heritage and communities. Village post offices have been closed down all to suit the EU and the politicians who apparently run this country. The list goes on.

For EU politicians to say we have to vote again is saying we do not have a choice we have to accept. The leading political party in Ireland arrogantly thought that the Irish people would say yes. You can tell by the way they handled their campaign to promote the 'Lisbon Treaty'. I was always asked to read any agreement before I signed any contract so I could understand what was actually in it. We are being asked to sign with out knowing what the treaty contains and seeing as the European politicians do not understand it them selves I will not accept the 'Lisbon Treaty' until I fully understand what I am signing.

No- i think they should stay in the EU- too many benefits, as long as 'we' don't allow anyone else to tell us how to vote

Its the Horendus lack of information thats been circulated to the general public. This leads to misInformation and worse NewWorldOrder Conspiricy theories. The public must first be giving basic instruction on how the EU works, Then information on the treaty then debate the informatiton. With boobs running the country any of this is highly unlikely so its up to you folks.

Would you really sign a contract without knowing what was in it?

We do run our own country, we have control over our police, judicary system, defense forces, tourism, Taxes, sports, elections, European Elections, and referendum voting etc..!

My problem is with you self suffient statement worthy of Dev's attempt during the 50s your bold statment of moving back to an agricultuaral society from an industrial one and pulling out of the EU. You only have to look at how the country was run until we joined the EU to see just how crazy it is.

But if you have a plan or some resoning behind your statment id love to hear it!

Please can you tell me exactly what is in the treaty. It has been reported that it is too difficult to understand. It was stated about the Mastrict (not sure how it's spelt but you know what I mean) that it it would take about 40 to 50 lawyers about 3 years to decipher it. We have continued on now to the Lisbon treaty which politicians in Europe have stated it's too difficult to understand. How on earth are they going to implement it if no one s knows what sin it. So far you are the first person to state they know.

You got that wrong, we do not control our country, the government do and you have absolutely no say in what they do.
The very reason we have been in such a state is because of out side interference from other countries.
The so called 'Irish constitution' was written by a foreigner, a Cuban, pass in Westminster before it was put to the Irish people.

If you can dig up the old Lisbon treaty threads that have been posted here a while back during the Referendum you will find an abundance of easy to read information that myself (yes camp) and PatrickThomas (no camp) Debated about and we each posted links and our own personal view on the matters at hand.

Its not that hard to understand because both parties during the referendum highlighted and debated the main issuses. The reason Most politicians didnt understand it is because most politicians arent lawers and there is alot of technical mumbo jumbo but it as since been brought down to an easy to read level that you should find if you look through the threads. But be warned although it is easy to read there is alot of eeerrrmmm reading to do. I spent the best part of a month looking through the damn thing devil

Well what do you want to say to the government ? What do you feel they control about your life ? You have no say in what ? The running of the country ? What do you want to change ?

Never knew a Cuban wrote our constitution ! Source if you have one please id love to read about it.

It's strange, we have to get our information from a dating site to learn about the Lisbon treaty?
I'm not a lawyer either, but do you not think that every one in Ireland should of got a copy of the treaty so we could make our own informed decision?
