Dictionary corner?

On the TV Programme Countdown, why are the people in dictionary corner considered to have an advantage?dunno

I can understand if they have a guess at a strange looking word and then look it up to see if it's there or not, but usually the word they come up with is obviously legitimate.

Perhaps if they had all day to look at every possible combination of the letters.

I suppose that Susie woman is quite appealing, although if she is the reason for dictionary corners existence, why not just have her pick out the letters...I'm sure she could solve the numbers too.

In my naivety, No I didn't know that..although I read once that Liam Gallagher has a higher IQ than Carol Vorderman. Not sure how they knew that but I believe it anyway.
At least she's gone now....although the new maths woman is equally irritating, and she has help too I'd wager.
