Scotland lost its national pride today! I can say that because I'm a Scot! I feel ashamed to discover there are so many traitors in Scotland, mind you with over 300 thousand English 'settlers' in Scotland who were allowed a vote and hundreds of thousands of immigrants happy to carry British passports also allowed to vote we probably lost half a million votes even before the polling stations open so I guess the result was a foregone conclusion which probably makes Scotland the most democratic country in the world, or the most foolish! Any negative English comments cannot make me feel worse than I already do!

It's easy to blame others when feeling hurt and angry.

Did you get to vote as a Scottish immigrant in England? Perhaps you feel upset and angry at yourself for not being there.

I think it's possible that some Scots are scared of going it alone and being independent. Let's face it, jobs are scarce, zero hour contracts are rife and many people rely on handouts just to live in one cold room and scrabble for food and clothes, never mind shoes.

Many people aren't in a position to lose what little sense of security they have. I can't bring myself to berate people for that.

Having said all that, this referendum wasn't a waste of time. It's a stepping stone in the process towards independence. You'll get there.

They'll only go independent if Britain does as badly over the next 30 years as she has done over the last 30 years. By which point it would make little difference. There would be no welfare state either side of the border and all that would matter is whether you're amongst the elite minority who can afford to live in one of the gated safe zones, or not.

Yet this may not happen. The future of Britain belongs to a new generation of adults that would be extremely hard pushed to perform as badly as the last.

The people you're describing here were more likely to vote yes. People's desperation helped the yes campaign and it did not help the Union as you are attempting to portray.

I'm sorry the time was not right for Scottish independence. As an outsider, the Scottish people seem to me, deservedly proud of their beautiful country and strong independent spirit that has never been conquered. Economics probably played a far greater role in the NO vote than any lack of desire for Scottish independence.

Wouldn't that very logic make yourself a traitor?

It's not as if you're in Scotland, is it? You call them out, yet don't even live there yourself. roll eyes

My only answer can be this poem:

Sons Of Scotland

It is sad to hear a summer’s last gasp sigh
as through balding forests rising winds cry,
when sweet and sour notes fill Autumn’s ear
a year’s sun filled season’s last tune we hear!
Far more sad when on foreign shore we stand
listing the tender memories of our own land.
Memories of legends from youth and infancy
taught in our Scottish schools as a legacy!
Chief of historic tales, Wallace of Caledon
waking clannish memories in each Scottish son.
Whether on a far off scorching coast we toil
or north, on the Arctic’s freezing snowy soil
hearing music of our land we close sad eyes
rousing our patriotism, then illusions arise!
Our souls open to where once we would dwell
the waving trees in forests and the lochs swell.
Each wanderer has visions feeding his brain
of reaching his native Scottish shore again!
Are such feelings for the homesick confined
now just awakening in a Scot’s poetic mind?
All patriots know their truth is on this page
not least for far off Scottish tears to engage!
From Westminster to beyond China’s red fire
sons of Scotland are there, always to inspire.
The proudest Scottish thinkers to all we give
as part of us, our ancestors will always live,
more proudly now, for all the world approved
of Scotland, from where its sons first moved!
