There is all this chat going on round here (SW Scotland) about the domestic science course at the schools being all about science and nothing to do with any actual cooking which was why the class was invented (It was called domestic science to sex it up a bit).

But apparently people out there are no longer cooking, so kids are no longer learning from their parents. Have the parents stopped because they have no confidence in their abilities or because they are completely lazy, or they just can't juggle the kids and the house and work.

What about you, can you? will you? do you?

I have recently taken cooking back up, (couldnt be bothered really when there's only one to cook for), but thoroughly enjoy it now, probably more than what I used to.....dunno

Cooking for one is tough, i find it hard to be bothered, so i always find excuses to cook for others

my children have been grown and flown for ages now but I still seem to cook for a few when I do bother to cook at all - thats the beauty of freezers though - home made ready meals beat the heck out of the supermarket ones......

on the science in schools, well, any science is better than no science I guess..........

on the cooking at home thing, I think its such a shame that everybody's so busy these days - I used to love cooking with the kids around, we would natter about all sorts of things and their questions about cooking were only a part of a great sharing experience - my son could make spaggi bol and apple pie like a professional long before they even did cooking in school, same with the girls too, very capable cooks both of em - and great memories grin

I would get bored cooking toast and even thinking of boiling an egg makes me feel bored yawn

Top of my cooker has dust on it due to lack of use, maybe I should clean it but whats the point when there's no grease or other leftovers from cooking on it dunno
