The only heat in my bedroom at the moment is from the electric blanket...

Not sure electric blanket is all that safe, but a kiss and a cuddle would have done you wonders instead. Do you agree?

It seems difficult because marriage has broken down a lot leading to more divorce, and common-law relationships are on the increase.

Angel_Diva: i agree with you Mike...trouble is its so easy to disgard what partner we dont want for a new one...days gone by that we put up and shut up and got on with it....

There are still people who "put up"', "put out"" and shut up, and that's not long ago when they did that.

But mother in laws scare the life out of me..

would have been better spent on a house believe me................all i got was one night in a lovely hotel................i paid for the weddingrolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing ...............he can pay for the divorce!!!!frustrated frustrated

It does happen. My parents have been happily over 50 years. My sister is happily married for 30 years, I have several brothers that are recently married within 5-10 years and they seem happy. I think it is important to choose your partner wisely and keep the communication open.

That must be where I've gone wrong all my life then. Made unwise decisions in my choice of partners and spent most of my time ignoring them laugh

It can be heartbreaking to lose them. My sister is a nurse and she knew of an couple in their late 80's who were in the nursing home together and had been married many many years. That's too bad. Too bad he wasn't thinking about his kids and how that would affect them. Usually, though the spouce passes away shortly after of natual causes. I don't know if it is because they are both old, or if the spouse that is left behind just loose the will to live. I would hope I would have the courage to go on, but still remember and cherish all the good times we had.
