langleygirl: Good luck with that ........ I've heard many stories of people who have the education and background to pursue a particular field and that when they get to Canada their past experience/education is not recognized so they end up with menial jobs.
Truly our government needs to address these issues when we have people who are qualified as doctors, dentists etc. working in restaurants or some such career instead of what they were trained for. Its such a waste of talent and experience.
I agree with you but to a certain point. People who immigrate here with qualifications from their country to work in such fields as medicine (medical doctors, dentists, etc) can work in these fields once they acquire our qualifications. Depending on their country of origin, their degree they will have to pass certain tests here and may have to return to study in our faculties to obtain the same qualifications and practise Canadians are required to obtain to work in these fields here in Canada.
I'm not referring to any country in particular but in some countries acquiring certain qualifications has to do more with who you know than what you learn and are capable of.
