I can't understand why so much money is spent on space exploration and travel...a necessary evil for the time being I suppose.

but with 30,000 CHILDREN starving to DEATH today and EVERYDAY, I think pumping money into space is f*n retarded.

Yes I agree with you, I don't understand why it is necessary to go to mars etc. We will never be able to live there, so why put all that money into it.dunno

Yes, the COST of space exploration is ludicrous and probably should be spent closer to earth,...but I would LOVE to be able to reach out and touch the stars! The hardest part about jumping off a cliff is forgetting to fly!

To explore, to discover, to seek,... let us never quash this desire in ourselves or in children,....reason is important,...but never at the expense of the passion of discovery!

I'm all for exploration and that stuff, I realize that we must continue to go forward...but doesn't this seem like putting the cart before the horse?
I mean isn't this like saying we want to remodel the kitchen when we can't afford the rent?
I think the world would be much more productive if everyone was fed and able to contribute... not saddled with debt that keeps them in the third world, and starving. Cycles controlled by big business and even bigger government make the climb from poverty extremely difficult if not impossible. I guess its all ok, someone has a beautiful paradise house on a hill, right?

Takes away everything it can get
Always making sure that there's one thing left
Keep them on the ropes with unsupportable debt

And they call it democracy...." - Bruce Cockburn

The true cost of space exploration is indeed a debatable subject,.....but I looked at the question for what it was worth,....would "I" like to go into space,...

And, if I am going to be truthful with myself, the idea of tying my butt to a couple of thousand TONS of explosive fuel, having someone lighting it up and hollering "HANG ON!!",....all I can say is "YEEEHAAAA!!"

Is there room for beer? dunno rolling on the floor laughing

There is much that needs tending to on our little blue ball. If things have gone to far where we need to look elsewhere it would make more sense to have astronauts accustomed to space through moon experiments etc, rather than sampling mars. Ya think?

Yup! There is definitely a GREAT deal on this planet that would be better served by the dollars spent on the space program,....but, it should be addressed that the space program is NOT without its merits.

But, bottom line,....if me, myself and I were given the opportunity to venture into space (and, despite the debate, the space program DOES exist), would I go? Does a bear crap in the woods? You bet I'd like to go!!! The g-force on lift-off would be worth the price of admission! Going into space to me would be about the same as the entire Dallas Cheerleading squad showing up naked for my birthday - I can only keep dreaming!!!
