There are alot of scammers on here and also on many other sites. l get alot of emails and messages asking me to add them to my yahoo messenger, the scammers seem to use a yahoo email and have a account on yahoo messenger. l was watching the local news one night and they had a man on there who had met a woman and after chatting with her for a few days he wondered if she was a scammer....he made a website called romancescammer.com. If you think you might have a scammer on the other end of a conversation go check it out and see if the name they use is on there...it helped me out a few times.
Had a guy that l had been talking to for 6 months, he had said all kinds of things, knew there was something not right but figured even if he was playing me it was ok because l wasnt buying it anyway...checked his name out and quess what, he was a scammer from Africa just looking for a way to canada.
This guy from the news states alot of the scammers are from there and use a site called myspace.com and will say anything they think you want to hear, they ask for money, they say they are sick and have been in the hospital, they have been married and are widows with usually one child and they love you from the moment they saw your pic. Be careful theres alot of these men and woman out there..

I contact people from other countries sometimes but I never ask anyone to marry me (haven't found the right one to do so...)

THE BEST ADVICE ON THIS MATTER

I have found one good way to sort out the scammers is this,

Ask them to send you one photo with one finger touching their nose,since no one poses like that if they are a scammer it's a safe bet that they do not have an existing pic like that.Explain to them that if they are sincere that they will understand this action.If nessesary send them a picture with your finger on you nose to show them what you mean.I did this and no longer recive mail any from russia.Also there is a good scams info link at the CS home page that is put there to help you protect yourselves,and is very explanitory and helpfull.

Hehe, some really good advice here.

I've gotten email back from this one lady in Russia, (the same that contacted me). Neither one of us can afford to travel at this time and she has not asked for any money, infact she even said she would never ask that of me. So perhaps she is a decent one, who knows?

Although her latest email also mentioned that she may move to Moscow and won't have access to the internet. Whats really strange is when I asked if she would like to talk over the phone, she said she had no phone! I also asked about getting a picture of her touching her nose but she has yet to respond to that.

So chances are we may end up just remaining friends. If I meet someone else I will see how it goes. No point wasting my time on a potential "expert?" scammer with no phone. lol

Going to check out that website and see if her names there. :)

Another thing to watch for is them sending you money--this WILL go badly for do not agree to accept wired funds or checks,remember they have and will try anything.If you would like,send me your E-mail and I will send you pics of about 6 or 7 of these Russians and you can see if one is your girl,for example "Ekaterina" is a russian super model and apparantly her and I were pen-pals--- yea,right

I was talking to aman for a while i stopped chatting with him because he was boring anyway about a month later i was contacted by someone else same pic diff name talked to him then asked if he had a brother told him why & what i thought of him lmao

Easy'' never ever give out your email just talk onsite until you are sure even then ask for thier email first please dont tar all of us with the same brush' you know us Aussies are ok for a start but still DONT GIVE OUT YOUR EMAIL.

Good advice Marita. If anybody asks you for your e mail then it's a scam. what I find hard to believe is that people are sucked in despite all the signals ie: crappy English, superficial romantic talk without any connection, model photos and so on and forth. The other thing that makes me incredulous is that in all of Canada, these people can't find a date so that they feel they need to talk to people from the third world to get lucky?

Delete them as soon as you get a bad vibe. Simple tests such as local weather if they say they are from Canada or if from the states ask them to tell you where they work or, tell you, in their own words something funny that happened to them recently or, a good joke. Humor is very particular to culture and is hard to replicate.

one day couple of weeks ago i got about 6 within a few minutes ..they sort of had spainish names ..the computer kicked then all into the junk file to be scrapped i always thought this thing was smarter than me anyways

Scammers believe to email here is not safe. They are wrong!
Yahoo or MSN all are privately owned and if they want to,can read your messages same as on here.

This lady may be legit but could be after a visa as some are.

I think they prey on people they feel are lonely and they post a pic that is attractive to get your attention. They give out their yahoo address, they IM me then have nothing to say, they take to long with their answers and use very poor spelling. They say how much they love my profile but can't tell me one thing they like about it. I ask specific questions about the weather, their hobbies, what they do for fun and they use one word answers.

well I get ALL sorts of messages from Tunsia, Morroco and the sort. and the FIRST thing they do is ask for me e-mail.....yeah no. #1 they can trace your IP through your e-mail. #2 anyone who is sincere about getting to know you will be patient and realise that contacting you through the site until you feel comfortable with them is MORE than acceptable.

This site provides it's own breakdown of scam related messages which is informative and on the money. I just recieved one in the past hour, asked me for my e-mail off the hop. He isn't getting it, nor will he get a response.

There is no saying that a good relationship can't develop long distance, however in times when you really are blind sided by your feelings you ignore warning signs (red flags) and they are there, but I think we have a tendancy to ignore them or brush them off as quirks. Just listen to your gut, you know in your heart if it's right or not.
