With the slow done in construction, the place I work is feeling the crunch.

It's affecting a few people I know. Warehouse guys have been laid off ... for how long, we don't know. sigh

Ag is doing great. Especially with the fuel going down.

I think our somewhat "repressed" economy effects is all one way or another. Groceries and other goods cost more, people are spending less, business owners need to keep the $ coming in, so they lay of or decrease hours to keep the wage percentages low....and so it goes. dunno Think the best thing we can do is to NOT SPEND WHAT WE CAN'T AFFORD; Try hard to not buy on credit and really think about purchases. It is what is is and we will make the best of it, we always do...and I think most of us were taught well by our parents and grandparents, who made it through some very tough times. wine

Walley, keep the faith. If you can't drive the vehicle park it for the time been as it will eat up the gas money. Change the way you shop, buy stuff on sale, buy things you really need, if you don't need any new clothes keep those you have, make sure you have food in your belly, and shelter over your head, and with faith in your heart, you can ride out this one. thumbs up

If anything, the current economy is a bonus! why?

the reason is because with the economy and the way it is going, I don't use credit cards...actually CUT UP the ones that I have so that I don't use them...did christmas shopping for the KIDS only (being my nephews and neices) and agreed with my pals that we do NOT exchange gifts...I spend more time at home, enjoying a dvd or making it a pizza night and having a few friends over...I don't go for random drives anymore and just drive with a purpose and I actually LOVE IT!!yay

More time spent with family, and less time out there going on spending sprees....

Work is slow no doubt only because I am in the construction industry but I just look on the brighter side of things...

hey, we all thought that GAS would be up to $1.75 in no time and if anything, its gone down 1/2 the price of what it was....

We will get out of this slump....let's just hope that people REALIZE times like this can become more often than we want it to be and so, we have to re-organize our lives and the way we think and we just may be able to weather ANYTHING

ps: good luck to you walley....keep the faith dude...keep the faith!

JMO

cheers!

Yep...got laid off myself. I've had 3 good jobs in the past 2 years, 2 in forestry and 1 in mining...got laid off all 3. SOOO...time to take stock and maybe go take advantage of some situations like the bug kill thing here in BC or get retrained...or something. Fortunately, when a door closes, another one opens.

I guess we are all in the same boat and it is a tough ship to row.

Apparently, there is going to be increased EI support and other support provisions available (the budget)for hard hit industry workers such as mining and forestry....keep your ears open geo, retraining would be great with financial support etc.! angel Hope it works out...btw, wasn't there a long enough very cold snap to perhaps have killed the bug eggs? dunno just wondering....cheers

Yes, everybody gets 5 more weeks of EI. As for those pesky bugs, we need sustained -40 below for at least 2 weeks to kill %80 of them. But for the most part, the damage has already been done. Granted, some got killed, but not enough.
