Q) What does TV represent to you. Sitting on my ass, getting the munchies
Q) What does it mean to your life. I think it can be good to sit down and watch your favourite show/shows, as far as sitting there all day...........no way. 'Packed to the Rafters' giddy up all the way. I wont miss that show.
Q) Is TV fulfilling the purpose it was created for.It depends how you look at it, it can be a place to relax for a while, or a place where you sit day after day getting sucked into all of the bullshit on it......

TV is the box attached to my DVD player, where I put CDs and listen to music.

TV means that I dont need to buy a stereo.

TV was created for viewing... I dont like watching TV I find it boring, hence I choose not to use it for the purpose it was created for.

My DD is addicted to various DVDs and when I am not at home, watches them over and over. She knows that when Im around its either off, or playing the aforementioned music. rolling on the floor laughing grin

Q) What does TV represent to you.

Not much.

Q) What does it mean to your life.

I guess the answer lies in the fact that the computer monitor is bigger than the tv at my place

Q) Is TV fulfilling the purpose it was created for.

Yes, it keeps the masses from thinking and feeds them what the powers want them fed.

So a miniscule sampling of the mass's say that TV is overated and is not fulfilling what it was designed for.

Why is this?.

And yet

Why is it still a major expenditure in most (See I didn't make the mistake if saying every) households?.

Who was responsible in Killing the entertainment value of TV for those that have already replied?.

Interesting thought .. who killed entertainment.

I would put it down to an influx of American programs, reality TV displaying the most disgusting attributes ever produced by the human race, not to mention the only family entertainment produced in Aus presently is complete shite (Home and Away & Neighbours).

Just my opinion. Shell goes and puts a Black Crowes CD on and listens to music sigh

A: Tv represents a dust collector for me and entertainment package accompanied by VCR, DVD & playstation for the kids.

B: It doesn't mean much at all, the odd bit of time wasting to watch a mediocre movie or tv serial.

C: I don't find tv fullfilling at all in any respect.

it is a pleasure to meet you Dragondog! hug wave

I think the media are constantly trying to outdo themselves and have created B grade shows in an attempt to beat rival station ratings by producing shows with thin story lines & pathetic acting in an attempt to come up with the next tv fad. As a society we keep pushing the acceptable boundaries that we can show and although I am a bit partial to smut and bad language, you look at shows like Hey Hey it's Saturday and that was the best entertainment without all of that. It was innocent with a bit of suggestiveness, a family show and offered a variety of entertainment. The hosts and guests were quick witted and the amazing off the cuff remarks were incredible and hilarious.

Hey Shell

Now there is my pet hate as well. Soaps and Reality TV.

Why did we go this way. Survivor was acceptable for the first couple of series. But that was it. And your not going to get me to believe that was filmed on location for those people over that time frame. And doubly so for the clebrity editions of those sorts of shows. No ain't swallowing that pill for no one.

But why did TV decide we wanted and needed to see the worst side of human nature glamourised on TV. We all live through it in one extent or another daily. So why turn around and watch it on tv. Reality TV was I'm afraid a boundary crossed. I don't want TV to remind me of life. I want TV to escape reality. Fast cars hot woman, Not a husband and wife and kids fighting with each other. (Wife swap & The Nanny).

And don't get me started on current affairs programs. The media who are supposed to keep us informed with the facts have also become victims of ratings. Even the news programs are often conflicting with the facts. Then programs like A Current Affair and Today Tonight are just pathetic in their attempt to deliver stories that affect our lives. I am sick of their scare mongering and oversensationalism for the sake of ratings, they are scaring the shit out of people for no good reason other than to make it look like they have your best interests at heart. I refuse to watch them now! very mad

I think years ago, you could watch these shows with some sort of interest, and maybe take a little away from they. Today thought its all about $$$$$ Feed them the shit and let them swallow it............drives me nuts.

I remember that although I saw only a couple of episodes from one series that made it to NZ. I think my Brother introduced it to me.

Yet there is the problem: We : Us: have let television get to this level. We let (Generally speaking of course)our children watch dribble on TV. We turn the box on and then tune out. We don't care.
I wouldn't let my Kids watch Bro Town,Southpark, or Shortland Street. Yet as soon as I wasn't around the TV channel changed. the wife had no objection.
My reasons were different for each show.

No I don't think the TV serves it purpose.
I discovered a new show recently. Its an old show now but new for me. Its on the Teenagers channel. Called Skins. Its teenage dribble but with liberal nudity, I got snagged. The humor is simple, That I can understand, and the characters relatable to.
Would i let my Kids watch it? Hell no. They can cause enough strife without watching that and learning other stuff. But i allow myself to watch it as harmless entertainment.

There's double standards for u.
