My sons mate was on the cruise ship that had cases of the swine flu & is under house quarrentine for 7 days it finishes monday he is on tamiflu.
He was on the cruise with a mate & his mates mum they are all Quarrentined . The mates mum is really sick,
Ok so this is whats happening .
I get a call from this boy who says hey im under house Q but his mum said he can go to the big party tonite , this is where my son & dozens of other are going tonite !
he isnt showing any symtoms at all.
I rang the Public health they called the boy & said he should not go ! that even tho he doesnt present he could be a carrier ans infect others
They told me that more people from the cruise are testing positive daily
I rang the boys mother who made out like I was being overprotective said she was ok with him going out because he wasnt sick...
So now I say to my son well Im not happy and dont want you to go . he wants to go
should I dig in & just say no your not going ?
what would you guys do
this is a big party & even if he doesnt go he will be hangin out with kids that did
I am so pissed at the mother its her responsibility to keep him home !!!!
farkkkkkkk

Let him go or you'll help make your son a social outcast and become the 'overprotective bitch mum' to all of his friends.

Truth be told, 'swine flu' isn't as bad as the media perpetuates it to be. It's a scare tactic and will only do any serious damage to people living in terrible conditions with no medication or people with seriously bad immune systems. It's not much different to the regular flu, which while uncomfortable, can be made less so with TLC and some over-the-counter medication. The biggest problem with this strand of flu is that it's not immunizable just yet.

Don't fret too much, your son sounds like a good lad anyways and might decide not to go just to appease your conscience. Understand that your son is a young man now and is capable of making the right decision for himself.

Let me know how it pans out xoxox

Oh crap, not a good scenario. You are right that this mother should be taking responsibility. I think the whole swine flu thing is a massive overreaction. I am not sure there have been many deaths from it and any old flu can kill people. I suppose you might have to weigh up the pros and cons and assess how it will affect everyone around you with time off work, studies, the pain of having it, is it worth it?? dunno Glad i am not you!! I think i would be inclined to say no, you're not going. Good luck!!

As you say he is a good kids so ill let him decide whats best
Im not freakin out i just think its wrong I just let the mother know what i think of her decision to allow him to go in no uncertain terms

Its about doin whats right
Its a resposibilty
I wont forbid it
After all he will be socializing with other kids who are at the party anyway tommorrow sooonot much point
I wonder how many other parents know they are sending their kids into potential harm

I'd me more worried about the drugs than bacterial infections. If I had a daughter, I wouldn't let her go to those parties :P I'm not a mysogynist, I just know what guys like me are like!

I wouldnt worry about it. As has been said.. its just a flu.. maybe a different strain of it but again like has been mentioned unless you live in a third world kind of environement or your as old and frail as the hills then its not gonna kill ya.

Worrying about something means you are more likely to attract it to you and make it happen

I'm sorry, but what the fuck kind of logic is that? Can you use an example to make that statement sound even remotely plausible? That sounds like something a 14 year old girl would write to the editor of Dolly magazine. If I've learnt one thing from these forums, it's that age does not have a direct correlation with wisdom.

Yeah lock him up he is putting others at risk. This is not a typical flu............it is making people very sick and killing some.

Fark the party, he needs to think of other people and not himself.

My kids wouldn't have a choice they would be in lock down like it or not.

Sometimes we have to be mothers not best friends! Prevention is better than cure! If everyone ignored Quarantines, than whats the bloody point?
I dont agree with a statement about living in a third world country to catch a virus. Illness does not discriminate!

As for that mother in question, unless her son had the all clear from a doctor, I would not chance it. wine

Yep all precautions should be implemented as far as I'm concerned, not wait until we are having cases of deaths because people wanted to go too parties and not stay home.....gives me the shits.

A bit of common sense wouldn't go astray.

No, i agree with Blonde, the energy you put out is returned to you be it good or bad. People with a negative outlook usually attract negative energy and vice versa.

I have a question?

I thought quarantine was enforcible by law? can the health department insist this boy stay in quarantine? you would think if he was such a risk they would be able to make him stay in quarantine? confused
