It makes me wonder also. My kids have been sent notes home from school saying if they have the flu, do not attend school under any circumstances.

Yeah, I wonder what will happen if one of our disabled clients gets it.. no way I wanna be in quarantine for a week with 15 clients who eat shit and cigarette butts, are incontinent and try to abscond all the time uh oh

I thought quarantine was enforcible by law? can the health department insist this boy stay in quarantine? you would think if he was such a risk they would be able to make him stay in quarantine?


They have been asked to quarentine themselves at home !!!!! When i contacted them today they called the people & stressed the importance of not going out but they said they cant enforce it !!!

The whole swine flu thing is just a huge beat up. When you look at the number of confirmed cases in Australia and then you look at the number of confirmed deaths in Australia from it... it really is a non-event. drinking

I am not worried about it at all really. If I get it I get it. Im not going to isolate myself or do anything differently then I normally do.. but.. I am not going to put myself in a room full of people with it either !!

The public health unit told me today that people from the cruise ship are everyday presenting with symptoms even today 5 days later they said there is no set incubation period , that a person can have mild strain of it with minimal symptoms presenting yet pass on a virolent strain.
Although weve not seen deaths from this , i dare say we will . as ablonde said the disabled , aged & infirmed will be effected first as will the young If it can be contained it should ber & the public health dept being so blasie about it doesnt help ...

The young, the elderly and the immune compromised die every year from your average garden variety flu... Of course this flu will kill someone in Australia eventually, but is it really any worse than any other type of flu?

I dont agree with a statement about living in a third world country to catch a virus. Illness does not discriminate!

As for that mother in question, unless her son had the all clear from a doctor, I would not chance it.

I asked them that today , they said potentially yes based on the fact that noone has built up immunities to this type of infection .
It will likely be much more severe, longer lasting,and resilient to mainstream methods of treatment, making it much more serious than the gasrden variety as you put it

It's about economics... and about some health officials getting their 5mins of glory.

Think about how much tamiflu is being sold. Think about the machines being sold to the airports for screening. Think about the facemask sales. Think about the newspaper sales. This flu is generating some serious sales for vested interests. drinking

And then think about the deaths have occured in Australia from this flu. Oh, you cant... there aren't any deaths in Australia yet. doh
