I need some advice,.......

My darling children left the remote controls on top of my wood fire and melted them. The remotes are cactus but now I have this burnt plastic smell all over my house when i put the fire on. I have scraped as much off as i can but i presumed the rest would just eventually dissipate, but it hasn't, it still smells. Anyone with any ideas?? lightbulb
