blondeaozichick: ok, I will try that ... thanks bourbsy ( and I assume that when you mean bleed the coolant its the same as bleeding the brakes and getting all fluid out then refilling) if not.. I don't know what you mean by bleeding the coolant

can I do the bleeding or do I need to get a mechanic to do it cos it needs a special tool or equipment?

It means bleeding the air out, not draining and replacing all the fluid. It is similar to the brakes in that there is a bleed nipple to get the air out. You'll need to have a good hose between the radiator and the expansion tank before you bleed it.

The bleed nipple can be a bit hard to get open if it hasn't been opened in a few years. You might be better off getting someone to bleed it for you. Take it to a holden dealer and get them to do it... they'll probably only charge you a few bucks. drinking

rodeo's dont use that much oil normally and if i'm reading your post right, they are telling you $7k for an engine?????
oil consumption is generally piston rings or valve stem seals and/or guides

any reputable mechanic can renew the rings or valve stem seals/guides for a lot less than that. unless it's just got a leak then that would probably be cheaper

i have a v6 rodeo that , as a mechanic, i rarely give any tlc to
it uses fark all oil, done nearly 200,000kms now, and currently is 30.000km overdue for a service

i abuse the living shit outta mine and she keeps coming back for more

KezzaOO7,It will be the valve guide seals and or stems guides
in this car <The Holden Rodeo after the late 90s have
had an array of problems with these ute's from engine problems to unexplained brake problems. I have at least a dozen close friend that have bought these vehicles and seen the problems
first hand,,they spent more time in the Holden workshop than on the road.
My good friend bought the Rodeo King cab LT sports for $57,000
a few years ago and after 4 months told them to stick it where the sun don't shine. Trade in for Toyota Hilux, Ford or at least a Mazda (although the ford and Mazda are more than likely still the same ute). No wonder Holden have changed the name from Rodeo to Colorado to get rid of the stigma!PS get a friend mechanic if u can to sus the valves and guides or flog it off before it explodes!!

psuedonym,, You would have to have one of the one that actually
goes! I still have my 92 mod Rodeo and it runs graet as well and looks about 4yrs old if that!
