I mean.. except for the 18 year olds - most of us here have probably done backpacking already.. but i was just wondering if anyone else is wondering whether they still like to give it a shot at this time of their lives... just a thought.... i am kinda itching to eff off from oz at the moment and considering getting a round the world ticket (not just as a holiday but to actually live and work in each country, that kind of thing)....

Yes I know what you mean banana

I did a trip last year on my own, to go to Slovenia to meet family whom i had never meet before and made the decision if i was going overseas i my own, that i might as well make it a trip to remember and see some of the world.

I picked up a world map and basically picked a point on map to where i would have to get too for my ticket home (Rome) was my mark.,

Went by plane to Singapore, then Germany, Austria, then Slovenia.

Then took trains from Slovenia to Rome.

Not quite backpackers as booked apartments and hotels and stayed with family in Slovenia but had planned on also using B&B if needed too (heaps on internet.)

What a awesome experience and adventure and had opened up eyes up to what life has to offer.

And yes I going to do it all again next year but going to go to more countries.

So I say go for it cheering

Just got to be careful and do a bit of homework (internet is good for research) and be careful and use your head.

Like i always carried a false handbag on my shoulder which only had change (no important stuff in it), so if someone decided to mug me - they got nothing

and kept other stuff in shopping bag or belt bag

I kinda do this on my time off. Travel to other places to meet new people. I work out where to stay usually when I get there and book my travels a few days before I leave. Leaves me free to stay or go whenever I choose.

Ppppp! MarcoPaulo still backpacks and he has had his 2nd 21st Birthday. I ride a bike around Oz camping where it's not too cold and backpack when I can ... and I'm getting grey hair at last.

You're only too old when your legs fall off.

Make sure you go through South Africa. They have great fauna. But don't get out of your car in Kruger National Park. It's not the lions yu are looking at that get you. It's the one sneeking up from behind.

Greece is good too. And Ireland. Those are two countries that have been invaded so often that if you're not there to rape pillage and plunder they are happy to see you.

North America is a must see. The New Orleans Mardi Gras will probablyl be picking up (at the end of Lent ... ask a Catholic when that is ... no ask one that practices ... err goes to Church ... I DON'T know when lent is ... I gave up smoking). It probably hasn't been much since Hurricane Katrina swept the City.

In 2000 an AMRAK (train) ticket that allowed me to jump on any train from anywhere to anywhere at anytime (as long as I booked a few days in advance) cost me $300.00 US. That was handy. You get to meet people on trains.

Travelling is GREAT!
