They say it's the most useful plant on the planet but it's illegal to grow it in most Western countries. What's your oppinion?

It kinda frustrates me that there's a whole industry that could be based around this plant and it's not being developed because of the prohibition laws which some say have dubious origins.

Really confused what sort of uses does it have? I know about the hemp thing but are you referring more to medicinal and other uses?

Medicinal/pharmaceutical
Hemp, rope, textiles, clothes etc.
Oil and fermentation of biomass, possible alternative to fossil fuels.
Seeds, in some cultures are ground to make flour.

But Kiz, industrial grade cannabis, certain strains of the plant, have no pharmaceutical or recreational value. The fibre is as useful as cotton and I'm pretty sure it takes less resources to produce/kilo. Less irrigation is my biggest point.

At this point I'd like to add that I have smoked bucket loads in my time but I don't smoke these days and I generally don't advocate the recreational use of cannabis.

both your posts are spot on Kizzy. the worst thing to happen is hydroponics which too many people use heavy chemicals & poisons to assist in the growth for sale results. Also because of the fertiliser nutrients used in hydroponics are dangerous to humans they are absorbed into the plant itself which causes it to become the plant it is today.

Recently it was reported that current Cannabis is responsible for up to 60% of the increase of the worse end of the scale mental illnesses .

The only legal cannabis which is grown for the use of rope, etc is in Tasmania & is strictly monitered.

But it is part of the issue. Sure they could even engineer it so there's even less THC in it. Actually a lot of plants (I think) do contain THC and aren't illegal because the concentration is so low. Also many plants contain nicotine but again, smaller concentrations than tobacco. And as for the health issues, what about alcohol?
