I need help! (Obviously laugh )

I took the best photos ever last night and they are saved on my memory card. I inserted memory card into laptop and viewed pics last night on laptop and left card in it until tonight. I took it out, back in camera, took more pics and now when I put it in the laptop it is telling me I have to reformat it. If I do this I will lose pics won't I?

Faaaaaaaaaarrrrrkkkkkkkk frustrated very mad frustrated

Is there some way of getting pics of the damn memory stick??

Please let there be a god! help

I am going to have lots of upset kids tomorrow if I can't get them. wow

yes you will lose the photos if you format it, as far as i am away there is no way to retrieve them, you try looking at the card using windows explorer, cause sometimes it says you need to format

if using vista, cancel the "we may need to format this shit" and continue on to open it via "My Computer" then select the drive and see if you can open it, failing that you will need to reformat losing the files

you could try a back up of the card, but this may not work due to the files maybe already corrupt.

if you are using xp same thing as vista except its easier to view through windows explorer, just check to see if you are able to see anything on it, if it still says no...format

wish i could be of more help.

im guessing you turned the laptop off? and if you did it wasnt shutdown properly, some laptops have a faulty power moderating program and can cause a more than normal amount of power to sent to devices in your laptop such as a card reader...this can cause corruption of the files...

next time i suggest a proper shutdown tongue or no shutdown at all.

Hi Lou

Us nerds are good to have around sometimes.

What you’ll need to do is hook your camera up to your computer via a USB cable. You may need to install your camera software on your computer. Hopefully you haven’t lost the pics, but it sounds as if your camera did something with the format after you took it out of the laptop. That why when you put it back in the laptop it wants to format it.

When you hook up the camera to your laptop you should be able to see all the contents of the camera both internal and external memory, the card is the external memory.

Hope this helps

Cheers

im not sure how the camera would of changed the card format unless someone messed around with her settings, but then wouldnt that just change the ress of the photo? instead of creating a entirely new format that the card reader would reject and suggest a reformat?

If you have a look at the pics while the card is still in the camera, that is, in review mode on your camera, and if all the pics are there you’ll be able to download to your laptop. Your camera should have changed the format of the card, its just an easy way to explain it, but your computer for some reason wants to reformat your card which theoretically wipe all data from the card. Right now if the card can be read by your camera, hooking it up via a USB will give you full access to all of the files on the camera and the card.

he's right, a direct upload would fix everything, it would upload in the cameras format to your computer which would read it right, dont know why i didnt understand that ealier...oh wait yes i do 6hrs sleep in 4 days sigh

If you format an Floppy Disc , Hard Drive , Memory Card , USB stick
it will WIPE THE DATA

To Format - " To erase the data on storage media on computers "

Your laptop may not be able to read the Memory Card thus
its saying you need to format it , or its formatted by the
digital camera in a weird method that the laptop cant read.

What Brand , Model and Operating Systems is installed on
the laptop ?

What brand and model is the Digital Camera ?

What brand and model is the Memory Card ?

I have a program for HARD DRIVES that can recover
formatted data , it works well
( it MIGHT work with a memory card ,
then again we never recovered memory stick data before)

Thanks guys..

I am using XP. I was able to view the pics on the camera all day until the 'reformat' thing happened on the laptop. I can't preview them now on the camera either. crying

I took it to a friend who has vista and he put the memory card in and the same thing happened on his computer too. He also hooked in the USB cable, same crap come up. grrrrrrrrrr I just can't bear the thought of losing these pics. crying

I doubt it will be any good, but I will try hook USB up to my daughters computer later on. Can't hurt to try.

If I took the memory card to Harvey Norman as if I was getting prints, would the same thing be likely to come up on their screen? dunno

Taking it to Harvey Norman is probably a good option, I’ve never used their photo machines but I’m pretty sure that they run on some type of LINUX OS. Its probably the best bet, Windows is likely just to mash it up further. Things aren’t looking good if you cant read the pics from your camera.

If there is an unrecoverable problem the Harvey Norman machine will most likely just state that it can not read from your media.

Sorry to hear about your problem.

Lou

It sounds like bad news, something has zapped the format of your card, but your data is still there. It just cant be read.

Do try and hook your camera up directly to your computer under a USB Connection. There maybe something viewable when your camera has control of the card.

Sorry, but its not looking good.
