Martia I met someone that posted a picture of themselves taken about 15 years ago, and when I saw them coming had no idea it was them because they were so overweight they had to put two chairs together to sit on. I was polite and sat and talked to them for about two hours. But let them know if they are not going to post honestly they are going to get nowhere even if they did get to meet someone for a date. I'm starting to wonder how many of these profiles are up to date and honest.

Yes molly there are a lot of people on the dating sites that do that. The thing that shocked me is I think the guys are just as bad as the girls.I can see a lot of ladies have airbrushed their pics and a lot are glamour shots made up to an inch of their lives just like the movie stars and they are the ones in our age group.Where as the guys take off an average of 30 kilo's if they are overweight and about 6 yrs off their age.
But not all do that only about 30% on average I know this because a survey was done a couple of yrs back on a RSVP I think.

Funny thing though the men were a bit worse on telling porkies about their weight

Sign of the times as its all about looks, the sad thing is they have to come to crunch time in the end and dont understand why they cant see that.

I have had no overweight guys but a couple of older than stated ones.Bit of a shock.

Not all of us "men" tell porkers, some of us are just who we are and find it quite difficult to meet someone who is just as nice and truthfull as we would wish. So like you we are forced, or, finding no other altenative have to wade through these site's to find that someone special. I dont like pubs and clubs and am not into "social groups" so I go here. i wish you luck on your quest and like myself i think if you just keep trying the truth is always out there.

Pockets66: Growing old is mandatory.
Growing up is optional!

Trying to change to to fit yourself into someone else's image of what you should be is an exercise in futility. Did it for 10 years 'til I became someone that my old friends and family didn't recognise but it didn't work.

No matter your age there is never enough singles in your age group handy. Though I have seen some stats that suggest there are a lot more single women over 50 than men. Though that could be singles actively looking for a partner only, not sure.
I do know that on average women do live quite a few years longer than men but I wouldn't expect that to be a major reason for a lack of blokes at your age (maybe in 20 years).
My ex father-in-law was single for 20 odd years before he remarried so there is always hope (thank goodness)
The only thing I can suggest is to stop looking for a partner and instead look for friends.
I have seen a number of people who present a very different persona when they are "looking for a match" often unconsciously but it can be seen as a falseness by others. When they "give up looking" they finally show their real self and end up caught in fairly short order. I think the best relationships are those that develop from a good foundation of friendship first.
I am wary of rushing into a relationship too soon as a friendship is something to be valued and it is much easier to go from friends to lovers than to go from lovers to friends.
Better to find out what the "real men" (as in not artificial not the self aggrandising 'macho' men) in your target age group are doing and join in just for the fun of it if you then meet someone then well and good, if not at least you are doing something you could enjoy.
p.s. I also knit but never got the hang of a crochet hook, maybe I should join a crochet club?? Mmmmm

Agree with every word you wrote perfect.

And can we put in our orders I always wanted a jumper with daffy duck on the front. And you should join a crochet club I need a double bed spread, done in the shell pattern. Cant do it myself have no patience, crochet is much faster than knitting. handshake
