phaedellis: Yeah except i'm about 20yrs ahead of you but it was alot of fun back then, and just living on the beach was heaven not a bad old place made heaps of friends up that way, who now all seem to live in Brisbane?


Horseshoe bay was the best place for a swim on a hot day. I lived in a caravan park on the southern outskirts of Bowen. There was a motel right next door and there was a murder/attempted suicide there at the time we were there, a domestic between the owners. It wasn't very nice coz we all knew their daughter, very sad indeed. Had some fun times there though. We lived in a caravan when we left Vic until we got to Brandon where we got a house. I don't know how we didn't kill each other, 2 adults 5 kids - 1 caravan for 7 yrs!

Ralf74: I was in the outskirts of Cairns out at Woree/Bayview Heights. I moved there in Grade 10 so that must have been 1989 and left in 1995. I love it up there, but just too expensive with the freight and tourist dollar on everything. I really miss the lifestyle, weather, humidity, rugby league and Malanda Milk! The milk down here sucks. I hate the cold, brrr. I still have relatives up there in Mareeba, Longreach and Collinsville.



I was in fnq & the top end from 1980 till 92 from darwin then to the gulf kurumba , up to weipa & cooktown Portdouglas the daintree cape trib in cairns I lived at Stratford & redlynch near crystals worked in Kuranda for a while , have friends still up there , love the tropics saw cyclones , cathy, winifred , Joy.

Loved the reef was hard to leave

Cool, nice as, love the Stratty pub, nearly had a threesome there while at a bike show, went in the wet tshirt comp! Used to go swimming at Freshwater and Crystals Cascades, fishing and camping with the crocs at Daintree. I had a mate, 19yo, who died from diving into Crystals. Sad as blues , he was a twin and the nicest guy. I went back up for hols in 2003 and it has grown so much, couldn't believe it.

I was a bar maid at dotties bar in the strafford hotel !! from 1987-89 I ran dotties bar lol & yes participated in & won several wet tshirt comps lol !!!
I probobly served you !!!!I was with dotties from before when the barbary coast was still a slaezy row of wild bars down the waterfront in Cairns lol

The pirates bar was particularly rough we had to have a 5' wide bar so we wouldnt get groped lol neva left our side of the bar too dangerous lol ofcourse the see thru tops didnt relax the natives lol

he he, you're a brave woman! I used to frequent the nightclubs mostly, Playpen, Troppos, End of the World, The Nest and Johnno's Blues Bar. Saw some cool bands there like The Angels, The Radiators, The Sweet. Saw INXS, Jenny Morris and Midnight Oil up in Kuranda at the Ampitheatre. Fark there are some good memories up there! I am not sure how I actually remember most them, did an awful lot of drinking!

Really not too sure but the motel & caravan park were out near the salt flats on the outskirts. He didn't do the job well enough on himself though and ended up in jail for murdering his wife. He apparently used to belt his wife a lot and the police were regularly there.

I called Mum, but she can't remember either, it may have been the Big Mango Motel?? It was on the Bruce highway going into Bowen from the south.

Hi Kezza yeah we didnt get it as bad, but what a storm, and they just said on tele more to come, got rid of one of the trees i didnt like, wish it was the palm tree tho?but wasnt it a bad storm? the people in the Ashgrove area, seemed to have copped it the worst poor buggers. wave

More freaky storms last night, hit about 1am and, the wind, lightning,and thunder was so loud,woke me up, nowhere near as bad as the one on sunday Night and hope fully not as destructive, my heart goes out to all the people who have lost their homes in the Ashgrove and Gap areas, i'm fine still standing and yet am only a few Ks away from the destruction....amazing thumbs up
