Its raining outside. I'm sitting in the bedroom on the bed with the lappie. I just picked up the paper.

And read the tragic story, of a father and his two sons who drownded near Bega whilst fishingsad flower

It reads;

Their dream ended on Tuesday evening in the rough seas off Tathra wharf when the popular 28 year old dived into the ocean to try and save his beloved sons, four year old Riley and 15 month old Travis.

The boys were fishing with their Dad, a keen angler, like they did three times each week after he finished work as a butcher shop in Bega.

It was about 8pm and Riley was looking after his little brother, who was in a pram up against a small safety ledge along the wharf. Suddenly it toppled over and fell 5m into the water, taking both brothers with it.

Moments after the splash, witnesses heard Mr ONeill , a strong swimmer desperatly crying for help as he dived into the 2m seas to find his boys.

All three perished a father and his two boys. This has really choked me up, the boys mother was at work in Woolworths when she was informed of what had happened.

How do you deal with losing your whole family in one night, in a moment life can change us forever sad flower

I cant even begin to comprehend what this woman/finace/mother is going through and how on earth you get through it.

RIP: Little Riley, Travis and their Dad Shane.bouquet

That's not quite as sad as a story I read earlier this week about a father&mother who along with a male friend over time repeatedly bashed and eventually killed an 18 month old boy.when the hospital examined him,he had untreated broken ribs and they killed him by breaking his neck.apparently welfare workers did have him on the AT RISK register for awhile beforehand.
Even I a mere male was in tears wondering how anyone could do this to a child let alone their own son.
I'm sorry but it brings tears to my eyes even thinking about it.crying crying crying crying

back to this current tragedy
there is just no answer why something like this happens , its devastating.
In the other story Jason the parents were obviously mentally deranged , drug effected or both .

If I had known anything about this at the time,I would have taken that child out of there>Even tho I don't have much money I would have tried to give that boy some sort of normal life. Then again I would have ended up in prison for beating those men to death,I wouldn't give it a second thought.

Well I guess on a brighter note, they will spend years being bashed in prison by the inmates for it.They hate anything like this being done to kids.

Sad fact is the motherfuckers will end up in PC and serve their sentences in relative safety. very mad

Yes what has become of child protection, to many files to deal with and not enough staff, been involved with this myself, thought about foster care again, have the room. I know they need foster parents desperately and you can be single and still do it. This thread has helped remind me how much, we are needed for these children, having a foster parent to take them to, when they are in danger could help stop these sort of things happening. And there are just not enough of them around. crying

I spent 20 years working in Child Protection here in WA, gave up a couple of years ago....felt I had done my bit, was disallusioned about how things were going.

The main problem is you are damned if you do (act) and damned if you dont! Cant win really....

JASON656: Bring back the death penalty I say

I agree whole heartedly, I have had some people argue with me over that, one woman said she could forgive the person if they killed her child depends on the circumstances, and she was speaking hypothetically and hadn't actually had it happen to her and especially what they did to that little child. Death sentence needs to return. Our Taxes pay around $280 thousand dollars a year each to keep these scum,( I am only talking about the murderers) and they have pool tables, dvds, subsidised uni courses, library's, limited amount of cigarettes so they stay healthy, they can even save up and buy Nike shoes, personal dvd players, stereo systems, at a cheep rate, the drugs and alcohol get through to them. The only thing they don't get is sex with a real woman. Although there is martial rights, but I think that low security I think. I know because my daughter was stupid enough to be involved with someone that didn't learn and returned to jail three times before it registered with her.
Some do benefit from these things in jail and come out a better person and that's what we want. But a cold blooded murder that has taken an innocent child's life or young woman's life, having these things to me is not justice.

Remember Bevan Von Eminem nasty, he was in that jail, and said the guy cell was so decked out, he was running a shop, and had a lot of power within the prisoners. so Scary and unjust for the parents of the kids he killed.
