If you have all the installation disc for your pc as long as you back up all your docs and settings onto DVD CD or removable drive even if you delete something that will foul up your pc you just do a reinstall and restore all your settings.
If you have windows xp or vista it's even easier as it will backup all your files for you by using the file transfer wizard and putting them onto a DVD then restoring them after you reload your software.
Back when I was in the computer game the first thing I used to do with customers who were shit scared of "messing it up" was to show them how to backup their data, wipe their computer and set it up again. That way they were less paranoid about "breaking it". Plus then anti-virus software wasn't as good and they used to get infected all the time.

Get a hold of the phone company and ask them to trace the number to the source or maybe even the police. They'll know whether it's a legit call from Microsoft or not, and it's their job to investigate fraud, so don't let them tell you any different, especially seeing as how he's phoned 4 times.

Thanks pocket when got new computer through insurance I wasn't supplied with windows disc, so that puts it between a rock and a hard place. My computer is running fine, what I am worried about is my daughters credit card she used on my computer to book flights and how this guy got my home phone number and was able to link it to the email I sent to Microsoft. If Microsoft is not safe then what site is, and if Microsoft rang me surly they would use a phone connection that was good enough for me to be able to understand everything he was saying.( sounded like he was ringing from Mars) And he had a very strong Indian( I think) accent. Anyway I will take everyone's advice, and you all have been more help than anywhere else, thanks guys.

C: Don't fix the issue in the prev call

maybe this is a new way for Spyware/Virus/Malware to infect users
by using Voice calls instead of using the Internet .

Yes! he asked me if I was on the net while he was talking to me and I had that go through my mind, so i pulled out my wirless connection, funny how you thought the same thing as me. not being paranoid. He didnt fix the problem because i wouldnt let him have any info
