I was very angry , but you make me laugh. Problem is that in previous regime(socialism), Monastires hadn't monks and was free for every one. But, now some Monastires have Monks, there are Monastires with man monks and Monastires with women monks. Few Monastires have room for guests, but that is for Orthodoxy Christians and it is free. Probably girl mix that when Orthodoxy visit church we bring oil and money, but that is not for monks. Also there is still problem with few Monastires, some people think Monastires do not belong Church, they think Monastires belong them like in past.

You have to experience Norway, best country in europe =) Check out the fjord in Stavanger and summertime in Trondheim, quite different from the rest of europe =)

i'm italian and like to travel too , i think some of the best places in europe are SPAIN ( because is a sunny place ,i love sunny too) , i agree with amsterdam ,never been there ,but many of myfriends visit and they say is very nice and clean !
anyway .. was a generic answers ,becouse you need to see what are the interest of your son and friend! maybe they don't like history ,and just want go around and have fun ?
if so ..they could go in SARDEGNA island, very good place for the summer,

maybe you should travel bit around and experience more things and learn about your culture and tradition and than maybe you will respect your self more and you will change your negative and ignorant behavior.

Its tradition to give something to monastery no metter you are Orthodox or not its like gift u give about over stay there.As saying says when ur in Rome behave as Romans.Cant reason why u felt angry anyway but from post before i can see you are very angry person.Better do something about it.
