Isn´t it just beautiful.

I´m going to see it tomorrow, my last day in Spain before I fly to the UK for six, loooong weeks.

The Palace was built during the 14th century, towards the end of Muslim rule, and the Islamic architecture is truly amazing.

Perhaps you could find it on youtube?

Aren´t we lucky in Europe to have such beauty.

Here in Spain the Moorish influence is evident almost everywhere. Even flamenco apparently has Islamic origins, and the Spanish language of course is full of Arabic origins.

I´m very excited about the trip tomorrow. Granada is a wonderful city.

I´m thinking about having Arabic lessons in September.

‘At a time when London was a tiny mud-hut village that could not boast of a single street lamp, in Córdoba there were half a million inhabitants, living in 113,000 houses. There were 700 mosques and 300 public baths spread throughout the city. The streets were paved and lit. The houses had marble balconies for summer and hot-air ducts under the mosaic floors for winter. They were adorned with gardens with artificial fountains and orchards. Paper, a material still unknown to the west, was everywhere. There were bookshops and more than seventy libraries.’

James Burke. Historian

He was talking about Córdoba during the 9th century!

Oh yes, it's so fabulous, Jan. It's a real jewel of Moorish architecture, art, craftmanship .. and beautiful gardens and fountains.. just lovely!

Only thing is that I thought it was huge, really huge inside.. but not really. Don't expect it to be as spacious and huge as the castles and palaces we usually see in France or Belgium or UK.

But it's indeed worth seeing. It's totally different.

Ama, you´ve been there, lucky lady too!

Thanks for the insight. I have a feeling I´m not going to be disappointed in the slightest.
