I am African and i love to wed a European. Many people think it won't work, in the long run. I don't think so and they think I am either crazy or not real to myself. But I want to do what i want to do. I think inter racial marriage will reduce racial tension and promote global understanding. Obama of the US is a critical example. However, i want to hear your opinion.

No it shouldnt be encouraged, but if the two parties involved think its ok, its up to them.

Why do you use Obama as a "critical" example?

WHO can or cannot "encourage" an inter-racial marriage..?confused Sounds like one should go round trying to convince friends to marry certain people because of the colour of their skin or nationality? Surely it`s up to two people to decide if they want to live together .....?

There was one famous case where a Swiss girl married a guy from Africa ... that tribe who stand on one leg, wear red blankets, and drink ox blood (cant remember their name).. and she had to learn to live like them... and couldnt manage it - she ran away back to CH with their child, and still lives here. She had expected him to be what to her was a "normal" husband by her western standards, and he had expected her to adapt to the African rural tribal ways ...... Big Failure, sadly.

Extreme cultures is hard to adapt to - but if you both enjoy one type of lifestyle .. then that would work, huh?

skin color does not define love.

Could be wrong, old age an failing eyes an all that, but I could swear that Obama,s wife is just like him,a darker shade of pale.

So you want to marry a nationality rather than someone you can love ? Strange, sounds like you are looking for a marriage of convenience to obtain legal staus in Europe. Can,t think why else anyone would attach such importance to nationality.grin

Ah yes, Conrad, that`s the tribe! The Masai - a wonderful independent and proud race of people!

The movie that was made about this couple was realy quite sad to watch ....... you could see how this couple were attracted to each other ... but their up-bringings and "cultures" was just too much of a shock when it came down to ordinary day to day life ... especially to the woman who was more used to a gentle way of life.

Strangely enough, an Australian woman did just that a number of years ago. She went on an extended vacation, lived there with the traditional people and fell in love with this tall, strapping Massai man. She married, and had the traditional Massai wedding.

She wrote about living in their small hut, with the ususal meagre surroundings as everyone else. When her husband's male friends visitied, she had to leave the room. She had already grown accostmed to it while she lived in the village before marriage, so it was easy for her. She just happened to accept the package deal and went into marriage with a Massai with her eyes fully open.

Last I read, was that they had opened a tour company in Africa. Success story.wine

Encouraging inter-racial marriages? No, but encourage people to marry who ever they want to - not matter the race hug

I'm suposed to say no. Since mine failed, but it depends on wich way you enter.
Being married to another race/culture also means uprooting change off friends etc. and it's hard.
In my beleif/experince it works when you do it out off love or respect. When it works it's the most revarding experience you can have, but it springs to mind that in Denmark interacial marriage has much higer change off failure.

So think twice and go ahead
