sigh

When is the human *slaughter* going to stop!?

As many locals and Foreigners living here know, come summer, and the island is one loud bang after the other. Yes our Religious Patrons' feasts in every single town are celebrated with Fireworks.

Over the years.... I have lost count of the many lives lost after some factory blows up. Very sad. The people who are involved know the risks and are constantly *working* with their lives hanging on thread. It is like that with every dangerous *sport*. crying

BUT: what happened yesterday in Malta is such a sad story. Apparently some guy was storing and producing fireworks in his home garage. Right in the middle of a residential area. Something goes wrong and he blows himself up.....three houses down...3 women in hospital...and another 35 year-old-mother of two young kids just back from her morning shopping dead. Other people injured... Police discover another 2 garages close by packed with MORE explosives.

When is something going to be done about it??? This SHOULD not have happened!! Did actually NO ONE know about this illegal going-on? I just wonder.....

frustrated sigh crying

The guy was a criminal. It is lucky that the fireworks did not go off when children were coming home from school. The area would have been very active and many people would have got hurt. Besides the deaths, people have lost homes. The garages were also not near his hoem either. So the guy did not put his home at risk.

As for the final part of what you say, it does seem strange doesn't it that this activity went unnoticed. I mean this was not an overnight job. It must have been going on for weeks.

Maybe if a lot more people blew themselves and their neighbors and other innocent people up with fireworks .... the production, sale and use of these idiotic devices of "entertainment" would become banned!

I am sick and tired of the amount of animals that are terrorised when humans "celebrate" with their stupid fireworks.

One of the reasons I was relieved to leave SA was the annual slaughter caused at "Guy Fawkes", Deepavali (supposed to be an Indian celebration of Light - NOT big bangs!), the New Year, and now lately it is allowed at Christmas time too ..... when animals de-skin themselves on the razor wire surrounding the houses in the crime infested suburbs, or impale themselves on iron bars when they jump gates/fences in an effort to escape the noise..... or strangle themselves trying to get thru steel burglar-proofing on windows, or slice parts of their bodies off getting thru broken window panes.
The highways/freeways/main roads are arun with fleeing terrorised animals. Not to mention the regular practice of tying firecrackers to some animals tail and then lighting them.

I have absolutely no sympathy with humans injuring themselves with fireworks - it`s their uncaring attitude to animals suffering that makes me furious. So the more humans that blow themselves up the better .... maybe one day the authorities will begin taking this stupid dumb practice seriously.

Especially adults whose children very mad

In my country, this things are already illegal. But it is a major bussines come easter time because it has been given ample time to grow into somekind of tradition.

My heart goes especially to those countless children that dont know much better and end up loosing a palm or an eye or both in the many many accidents that occur.

About the event in Malta, i do not think that no one knew about it. I was reading in an e-paper that shortly after the explosion, police got information 2 other nearby garages loaded with explosives. It is obvious that some people of the area knew what ws going on but would not report their "neighboor" or "friend" to the police... It was necesary for another person to die, houses to be demolished and other people injured for them to get scared enough and report this to the police...

Why? How far does stupidity go? Its like sitting on a time-bomb and having a liking for the manufacturer of it, believing that it will never go off! People all over the world need to be tought a lesson about morals over this tragic story...

thumbs up That too smoky...how can one *EXPLAIN* these *fun* things to those poor animals?!!!! very mad

What really irates me about this particular incident is the arrogant going- on, right in the middle of a neighbourhood, with unsuspecting neighbours not knowing they're living on a time bomb!

At least some *good* news out of this horrible tragedy: One 15 year old girl was spared her life...in her late morning sleep, by a falling wardrobe resting on a bed headboard, which created an empty pocket. The girl managed to get out ... applause cheering

Well, I guess, to protect oneself and family, it is best not to keep quiet about the goings on in other peoples garages? Everyone must now become a "snoop"!

If only everyone would just do "the right things" in life!
