One is always allowed to voice an opinion, but to get personally insulting is a no-no - seems he overdid himself this time? As a person with a good command of the english language there is no excuse for him. I missed the repartè that was apparently responsible for his banning ... One has to understand that the CS site is and can be held responsible for allowing members to defame one another - hence the rules.
In the past very active and interesting members have been banned, for much less blatant language use.
Personally, I have reported about 4 of his postings where he has insulted me personally, and one post that attempted to defame me. One has to remember that on this site we are dealing with a vast network of people from all walks of life ... and not everyone just smiles and takes anyones shitty language - The CS Site is responsible for our behaviour - they are the guys on the firing line.
I absolutely agree - personal insults should be unacceptable on any public site; there are lots of civilized ways of discussing topics and voicing different, and even opposing, opinions.
And naturally, since they are ulitmately responsible for all content on their site, the CS staff have the last say as to what can be posted.
On the other hand, who decides what constitutes an insult?
- The insulted person? As I mentioned on another thread, different people are insulted by different things.
- The other people on the forum? In the end, it has to be the CS staff, in my opinion.
- Name-calling? Some people are offended by the slightest thing, and some people take it as a joke (which it might even have been intended as), and some people just shrug it off, or ignore it. Different strokes for different folks.
If you take a look at all the different threads on the different forums, you'll see many, many ugly and nasty postings, that remain untouched. And there are people who cunningly disguise their insults in such a way that many people don't notice them. Does this make the insults acceptable?
The way I see it, in such an international and multi-cultural place as this site, the only reasonable thing to expect is for everyone to use some common sense, be as polite as they can and to listen to each other. If problems arise, then the CS staff can be contacted, and they will have the last say.
