I,ve been quietly sitting on the fence on this one for a few days now not really sure what to think.
Creak....groan.....heyyyyyyup.....bloodyhell that was sharp thing, mother of Jesus what the.....(Coming down off the fence clenching buttocks)......
ok, I see it like this. At some time or another everysingle one of us has caused offence to others, maybe even without realising. Sometimes it is because we are permanently,or temporarily, or partially socially inept. Sometimes it is because we are lashing out because we are under pressure with work or personal problems, had a shit upbringing,going through a bad patch,whatever. And sometimes we cause offence knowingly because we want to piss someone off. Again, whatever.
As many of you know Rusty made what I and others considered distasteful and inappropriate comments to me. I reacted quite strongly for various reasons. And that, as far as I am concerned is that, end of.
Except to say that I have received a humble apology, an apology I have accepted.
Now I know there have been other disagreeable exchanges, but I don,t know what they were, and quite frankly I don,t want to know thankyou very much. I happen to believe that those involved are intelligent, sensitive people who have the ability to resolve this themselves without everybody else pitching in.
It is a great shame because they are valued contributors, damaged goods like many of the rest of us I suppose, who have a great deal to offer.
If any of those involved weren,t liked or respected this thread would not exist, we,d all be secretly glad to see the back of. Anyway, a line was clearly stepped over (let he who hasn,t sinned cast the first stone)which should not have been stepped over.
It is not my decision, but personally I would like to see Rusty back and maybe those involved can just step around gingerly awhile. However,the Rusty I,d like to see back is the intelligent, funny,sensitive one.
Now I realise that this looks like I am taking sides. I,m really not, I,ve got a lot of time for all those involved. I have learnt a great deal from all of them. When I first joined I was like what Conrad calls the fifth wheel on the cart. However, as I become a part of the forum scene if you like, I have found that my life in general, outside of CS,has improved enormously. Amazing.
I do think the mods took the right steps in banning Rusty. Things could not be allowed to escalate in the way in which they were. However, I would hope that those involved have learnt something from this. I do not think Rusty should be banned indefinitely. I realise that this post may make me unpopular with those ranged against Rusty. However, I,d like to appeal to everybodies better nature and ask that we forgive and forget.
This is a community and I would hope a community with a heart and soul and an inner ability to move forward in a friendly, positive way. Life is too bloodywell short.
