Sarcasm, if dealt with in a good way, is wonderful and I believe every single one of us resorts to it at some time or other. I refuse to get all serious about this, however if the above comments are directed in some way at me (cause I am sarcastic and I do say I have fantastic friends here, though this does not make me a hypocrit nor shallow) Then I repudiate such comments and can only say light up, lighten up and have a laugh.wine

So? what is wrong with being simply shallow? Î think that people use sarcasm only where they feel safe to use it ... and that is usually with friends? And yes, we are all friends here ...... maybe we not all bosom buddies, but we are friends .... on different levels of friendship. Friendships are formed by how much people confide in each other. If someone sits on the sidelines and never shares their feelings ... they cannot then complain if they feel left out......because people wont invade space they not invited into.

food for thought here.

I'm going to sleep on that...

could it be that you're right?it might well be...

I'm going to think on this one.

I've thought about it...

and this goes back to the good sarcasm vs the bad sarcasm.

good sarcasm is good.

bad sarcasm is bad.

There was a point in time when I was told that all jokes were almost 'evil' - that to make fun of any group or individual was 'bad'.

It's hard to laugh without something being funny!

Maybe we are like the apes and monkeys.

Their 'grin' shows either fear or anger.

Do we laugh out of embarrassment or fear?

Do we laugh because we want to show deference to the person making the 'joke'?

Are we more like monkeys in our social behaviour than we think?

I don't know...I know I like to laugh WITH somebody rather than laugh AT somebody and prefer people to laugh WITH me rather than AT me.

Laughing AT me is an insult and makes me want to kill your sorry ass - laughing WITH me makes you my friend and deserving of a hug!

very mad hug

Oscar Wilde was very sarcastic (" I have nothing to declare except my genius").

When I was passing through Stansted airport a few weeks ago, heading back to Spain, there was a massive queue at passport control. Lots of stressed out people being asked to remove shoes, belts etc and being body searched. When it came to my turn, whilst being physically searched, the chap asked me if I had anything sharp about my person I replied " Only my wit". This proved to be a great ice-breaker! He grinned as did lots of others and replied with a big friendly, cheesey grin " Absolutely essential I,d say sir". Everyone close by was suddenly more relaxed. Syou see, sarcasm is not always bad.thumbs up

Whose money she sadly had spent
I bought her a drink
And gave her a wink
And now she's off sex until Lent!

Sarcasm... i would say that it is fun and kinda welcome between people that know each other or simply enjoy each other...

So, being sarcastic to a stranger can very easily be received as offensive or aggresive while if it is between (intelligent) friends can lead to a few good laughs!

Thus, i enjoy all kinds of sarcasm from people i know or like, as long as they can take a sting back wink
