I hope Turkey becomes part of the EU, and soon.

Have travelled arounf Turkey several times and found them nice people.

Maybe too many people equate Turkey with the film Midnight Express (which was filmed by the way in Malta) or equate Turkey with Islamic fundamentalism (which Turkey is not into).

Anyone, before judging and rjecting Turkey should look at the history.
Today what is aimed as a European Union is a modern Ottoman Empire.

But there is a big difference. Ottomans always had an army. Europeans doesn't have and -- in my opinion - they cannot have an army.

Without an army, what can you do in Today's politics.

We have directed the world for thousands of years. Noew we are in break. Without Europe or USA we will go on our way. WE don't need to be a member of any union.

No one is going to bomb you, you have a right to your opinion..however I think you have a very old fashioned idea of politics and international relations ...power is not just about armies .............

In my opinion armies don't represent power. Army is a necessity of being a Power.

Glad you have taken time out of your busy job in the Turkish Army to try to justify your existence. However, you are fooling yourself if you think that having an army equates to having power.

Having army doesn't equate the power. Having an army is one of the known parts of the power puzzle. Without an army the unseen parts of the power puzzle are not important.

And again. Turkey never should be a member of European Union.

To be independent ...... is to be independent. EU, in my opinion, is just another load of sheep following the "leader"......... Border controls?..... Easier life to cross those borders?.....Easier in general to take whatever you want across those borders?.....Less control?......Humans without control?........More problems later....?... Stricter controls.......? ... Worse than what we have at present?......More politicians..?

While Ottomans ruled to Bosnia,Bulgaria, Macedonia,Greece and other countries the people lived in peace. Are there peace in Bosnia since 1990. Are there peace in Europe since Ottomans became weak and weak.

The most bloody wars in the world happen after Ottomans (i.e. Turks) lost their power. This is the truth.

Nobody has to like the Ottomans and Turks. The Turks also doesn't have to like to others'. The Republic of Turkey doesn't have to join the EU. And WE WILL NOT.

ANYWAY, all we have to live in peace and help the peace to be longer and longer.
