"No insurance.... no Driving licence." They don't need to register a car and most of them never heard about driving licence.
And (at least this is what I heard) when you hit someone you should escape. Since no licence plate there's no way they can find you :-)

Something that was happening in South Africa just before I left there a few years ago was a new twist on "personal life insurance" ....... Someone with AIDs, in an advanced stage, and a family to care for, would wait on the side of the road till a nice new looking car (preferably a Merc or BMW) came along and then step out and get slammed ... The family would do the court case thing, and be paid compensation.

... But, some poor guy got the wrong message .... A friend of mine had the experience of having a guy run towards her car while she was negotiating an on ramp on a highway - she kept slowing down to avoid hitting him - till she was stopped, with this guy tugging at something in the front of her car - then he ran away with her number plate! She was contacted later by the police to say this man "had her licence number" and is "claiming damages" from her. Fortunately, when she explained the scenario, even the police appreciated the dark humour of the situation.

Jislaaik!!...gives a whole new meaning to the phrase " I've got your car number plate!!"

He He.....read this the other day,bit of a connection (only a bit) but nevermind.

A policeman was setting up a radar trap in Australia. Four young guys came by in a car and stopped.

While three of them kept the cop occupied with spurious questions about speed cameras etc. the fourth one crept round the back of the police car and unscrewed the number plate.Once this was safely hidden under his coat the others bade farewell to the officer and they all drove off.......

Next day they put the licence plate on the front of their car and drove through the speed trap.....
