Chocolate cake recipe.

In this recipe you make the cake and then ice it with chocolate icing. The amount of cocoa used in the icing will determine the strength of chocolate taste. I have stated 1/2 oz as an average figure, which could be increased to 1oz for a strong taste.

For the cake:

8oz self-raising flour - sieved
3tbsp cocoa
2tsp baking powder
8oz margarine
8oz caster sugar
4 eggs, beaten
cup of milk

method

put all ingredients into a liquidizer and make liquid.
(or mix flour, cocoa and baking powder in a large mixing bowl. mix all other ingredients in another bowl. add the two bowls of ingredients and mix well).

grease an 8 inch tin - the ability to remove the cake once it's cooked depends on greasing the tin well.

pour cake mixture into tin.

put in pre-heated medium oven for 50 mins.

check if cooked by stabbing a skewer, a knife, a needle, a stiletto, a dagger, a flicknife, a crucifix or similar, into the cake. If it comes out clean, the cake is cooked.
turn cake out onto wire rack and allow to cool thoroughly.

For the icing:

to make the icing beat

3oz butter
6oz icing sugar
1/2 oz cocoa powder

into

1 tsb boiling water

Ice the cake with a palate knife

Hey, very nice! I gonna try your recipe!

But ... in the event that Quirimans cake flops ... may I offer my Flop-proof Chocolate Cake recipe? Been making this for years and years .. even my dog in SA loved it!

But seriously, I used to give cooking demonstrations once upon a time, and always used this recipe.

3 eggs - beat till frothy
3/4 cup sugar - add slowly to egg and beat till rich and creamy looking.

Meanwhile, heat in a small pot - till butter is melted -
50ml water
50ml milk
50ml butter

Disolve 100ml cocoa in 100ml hot water and add to water/milk/butter mixture.

1 1/2 cups plain cake flour
pinch of salt
Sieve this onto a dinner plate.

Now you ready to add everything together:
Alternate adding flour by the Tablesp and the hot mixture while beating well with electric mixer.

Lastly beat in 20ml Baking Powder and some vanilla essence.

Pour into 2 sandwich tins, well greased and bottoms lined with baking paper.

Bake at 350F or 180C for 25 - 30mins.
Press your fingers on top of cake, if a dent remains its not done yet.

Icing: I find throwing in a couple Tablesp butter and hot(must be boiling) water and adding the icing sugar and cocoa powder and mixing well with electric mixer seems to work - the more you mix the creamier the icing, till you can not feel any sugary grains.

..............oOo.............
If a cake "flops" - cut it into small squares, dip in very liquid icing and roll in grated coconut = Madelaines!

hug NEVER Quiriman!

But you know what ... I find that recipes are like dentists and lawyers - some work and some dont, it all depends on the vibe you have... Ì`ve recommended Excellent Dentists and some people have freaked out, walked out after the first injection! Then I tried a thoroughly and highly recommended lawyer once, did marvels for a similar case to mine ...... and ended up having to restrain myself from blasting him with a sawn-off shotgun!

Also .. baking seems to depend on ones "mood" and "approach" - if you in an excellent and up-beat mood then nothing flops. Then when you Have To bake - sometimes the stupid thing flops!

But I like your recipes .... I havent yet used an Entire recipe (saving that for after pay day when I can have ALL the ingredients handy) .... but I use your ideas to improve my boring stuff ... and everyone enjoys it! I specially liked your addition to pasta which I used on left-over rice and bluffed family they eating Chinese..... the fried bacon and adding milk and cheese ..... that was delicious!teddy bear

Just drink a BEER MUG OF WATER before eating a slice of cake - then invite some kids over for tea and cake! then do at least 30 sit-ups!

Or .. you know what works for me? .... eat chocolate cake for breakfast! ..... then you burn it up! (or so I convince myself)cheers

Google AdSense just felt it was time to give me five tips for a flat stomach while reading this thread.

Small things makes the fun in life.

To the topic. Is there not a cake called the swarzwald or something, all in chocolate?
