It was a sultry night. The temperatures had hit 110 on the thermometer in the shade during the day. Now he sat on the patio at Villa Creek having carnitas and ice tea reflecting the day that had passed. A hot wind passed along the buildings in the center of town. As his eyes glanced around the patio looking thru the glass doors he caught a glimpse of couples some talking and some not, his eyes stopped at the park across the street. He could not help but reflect on the past five years of his life and the experiences both good and bad that had transpired. How could it be that he was still sitting alone on this evening? By choice, by chance or the luck of the draw? He had always been attracted to the Central Coast for its natural beauty but somehow never feeling quite at home concerning a connection with the locals. Somehow he was more edgy like the people in the big cities but could not deal with the mass of humanity and the dirty environment that cities can be. Life is a compromise. It’s nine thirty at night and it was still hot, another glass of water. Jack Daniels comes to mind for what reason not sure but it seems the thing to do. No, thoughts can’t become cloudy now. He never was constrained by what other people though he should do but was aware of their opinions. He always cut his own path never working for someone else; it was make it or break it on his own. Business adventures were his game and maybe for the high of success. He played business in real life as he played Monopoly as a kid. It was either all or nothing to win the game. In real life he has not been kicked out of the game yet. He had his failures also in business though not taken as well as success.

I'm looking for:

Had there been a thousand or more profiles that he viewed over the years looking for that compatible mate? The dinner dates that at times felt like an assembly line. Some very nice women that he had met but somehow not the chemistry both people were seeking. Sometimes it was right for her and sometimes right for him. A few times it was very close to right for both but distance, immigration or other issues foiled the plan. He continues to search hoping that the right combination of energy will come together. Dreams of travel adventures fill his thoughts tempered by reality. Is reality what gets in the way of dreams? His search continues but not the pace of the past. Now his life has changed with the economy as so many other lives have changed. Call it the new reality or just his reality. Thoughts drift to other places and maybe other times. Can the best parts of the past be recaptured with the right person now? Only time will tell.
