About me and who I'm looking for

About me:: I was born and educated in New Zealand(NZ. My ancestors are from Ireland and Scotland. I am a retired chief executive (of NZ's largest engineering and architectural consulting firm) and civil engineer who is about to take a job working in Pavia for 5 years. I am fit and healthy and want to find somebody with shared interests to be part of my life in Italy. Since retirement I have kept myself busy with overseas travel, some pro bono work at Auckland University (NZ), some consultancy work, some company directorships and art history study at Victoria University (NZ). Interests include reading, music (jazz and classical), theatre, current affairs, concerts, art exhibitions (when I travel I would spend most of my time when I am in cities at art exhibitions or museums, travelling, sailing, walking, staying fit. I enjoy wining and dining (life is too short not to stuff mushrooms), and social contact with friends in NZ and overseas. I could be termed a liberal on most things. I have a sense of humour, am loyal (I was married for 38 years so do not flit from relationship to relationship), persistent and like to achieve. Over the last 13 years I have travelled in European countries every year including Italy. Have also cycled from Saigon to Hanoi in Vietnam and have cycled in Ireland and France. I grew up in NZ and went to school and university there. I have lived and worked in England and Hong Kong and have travelled to many countries round the world for pleasure and for business. I am financially secure. I DO NOT speak Italian. I have good Italian friends who live in Crema.
I'm looking for:: I am looking for somebody to share some of my interests with particularly travel and my new life in Italy. I full realise an exact match of interests is unlikely and would welcome the opportunity to be exposed to and participate in new interests and the culture of Italy. I would like to meet someone who is inteligent, likes travelling, is honest, fun, open minded, active,artistic, adventuresome, and who likes conversation on a wide range of topics. I am open about ethnic background. I would like someone who is emotionally and physically strong. Because I cannot speak Italian I would like someone who can speak English.
I want to enjoy life. There are no luggage racks on a hearse!!

My Interests

I read extensively. I enjoy music -jazz, classical, opera. I have a great interest in Art History which I have studied by attending university courses and by visiting many art museums and galleries while travelling. I once did a lot of running and orienteering but do not do so much now because of an injury. I love movies and always go to all the Italian Film Festival films when they come to NZ. I love sailing.
