About me: I'm an editor, designer and author of books for children and adults; I had two books published last year, an Irish story for children, and an illustrated annotated hymnal (strange from someone not religious, eh?). I love books--the way they feel, the way they smell, the presence of them in my hands--and have been writing them since I was eight. Other vital signs: I live on an island and love every minute of it, every day, every season. I'm the youngest of six children, so like lots of company and lively conversation, but can also be reclusive when I'm working on a project. My father is German-born, and my mother is fiercely proud of her Irish roots, but I still believe that home will be where the heart is.

When I'm not researching or writing, I'm reading, going to movies, chatting up strangers in local dives, searching for seashells, travelling (from safari in the Maasai Mara to the old family farm in Ireland to Tybee's beach Bum Parade), and staying close to friends and family, on the phone, throwing dinner parties, and writing letters the old-fashioned way.

My only addictions are beautiful artwork and fascinating stories. I'm a Marylander in Georgia, but travel on business. I'd love to hear your stories next time I'm in town.

I'm looking for: I'm looking for a kind man with a sense of humor (I like everything from David Sedaris' books to Jon Stewart to Ren and Stimpy), a mature conscience, and an active mind. I would deeply appreciate an imaginative type whose parents are happily married (mine have been for 59 years) and whose childhood was remarkable only in its magic and normalcy (the South is stricken with Gothic Trauma).
