About me:

I'm an easy-gong man, gentle and affectionate, also strong and steady when need be. Though often absent-minded, I can be intense when necessary.

I've tried this approach to "romance" before. Thought I had found the perfect woman for me. Spent the next few years finding out what the men in her home town already knew. I know they're not all like that. I'm willing to try again.

Looking for a mature woman with some common background and interests. I am mildly outdoor oriented when the Wisconsin weather permits, but I do other things as well. I like to fish (catch and release, unless YOU want to to cook them, in which case I will clean them but don't to eat them). The old Irish tradition of "mucking about in boats" is always fun. I'm fairly handy at lots of things. I read for relaxation and enjoyment. As to other outdoor and indoor experiences, I'm willing to try new things, within reason, but I don't like motorcycles or similar noisy, annoying vehicles. I'm not into traveling the world. We live where we live, and there's always a lifetime's worth of things to be found within a few hours' drive.

I'm fond of and get along well with most small animals, cats, various rodents, and so on. I understand them, and they like me. I'm not not comfortable with dogs, since I'm allergic to most of them.

My favorite music is of several types, but mostly gentle and a little wistful, or sometimes happy. Examples are "A Taste of Honey" (the original Beatles version) and many other 1960s pop songs; Mozart's "Eine Kleine Nachtmusik" and others; and so on.

The pictures are of myself in various phases, except that one is of a Civil War general with the same name as mine. He was not my ancestor but looks very much the way I did at the same age. Makes you wonder. Two other pictures feature my favorite rat. Don't believe everything you've heard about a species (or group) until you've met more than one. Nugget was a wonderful person.

I'm looking for:

Looking for a woman to make my life fuller and more interesting; one who can show me things I've been missing. I hope she will let me do the same for her. I've accumulated a few quirks and crotchets over the years. So have we all. There's a challenge. But what else is life?

One absolute turn-off: if you smoke at all, anything, anytime, please pass me by. If you're really, truthfully "trying to quit", please feel free to contact me when you've been addiction-free for a full year.

I would like you to be easy-going and reasonably accommodating whenever reasonably possible. I promise the same. If you want me to try your favorites, I'll consider them. Please be willing to consider putting up with mine. Maybe you can show me something I've been missing. Maybe I can do the same for you.

Things that turn me on in a woman are intelligence combined with a positive outlook on life and a sense of humor. I have a preference for a slender figure if possible, but I understand that we all get a little thicker as we get older.

Turn-offs include conspicuous tattoos, and piercings other than earrings, but there are no absolutes there. I don't care if you drink or not, as long as it doesn't affect personality or behavior. If you like cats or rats or other small animals (see above), that would be good. But what really matters is YOU, the human being.

I would like it if you live in Wisconsin, nearby Minnesota or the UP of Michigan. That's not an absolute, but I would like you to be in reasonably comfortable driving distance. Flying is not my favorite means of travel.

One last thing: You'll notice that I didn't mention sex. That's an extra benefit. Almost everything else is more important that that, when it cones to compatibility between a man and a woman. If the love of mind and soul are there, then the love of body is easy. Otherwise, it's just phony.
