Breathless/Italian movie

I remember very few scenes from this movie.It is an Italian film directed by Antonnio DaVicci?The proganosit of this movie is a post man who uses his bicycle to deliver posts.But one day his bicycle is stolen and he cannot get his job back without his bicycle.He has no money to buy another bicycle either.He eventually decides to steal a bicycle but he does not know how to steal.His boy kid about 8 years is also with him to help in stealing.Not having a plan or modus operandi he simply picks one cycle parked amongst many,rides it fast and the kid runs behind him.But the crowd easily overpowers him and starts assaulting.His kid comes to his rescue but as soon as he approaches the crowd he gets afraid and runs away and watches his father being beaten up by a mob from a distance,unable to do anything.He cant fight nor can he "flight".When the crowd gets tired they disperse.Then the kid runs towards him and helps him get up.A plump faced kid who keeps running to and fro towards the place where is father was getting beated,fully confused.During the emergency period my father was also arrested from our flat.The police caught hold of him by the collar and dragged him out of the house.None of us could help him.When I entered for medical college,he police arrested me and took me to the central jail.Is it hereditary?
