Indian Summer

Indian Summer

Sunlight and heat
In a cloud-dappled sky
Blue and purple hues
Crease the horizon
As dusk creeps across
The mountains and
Down into the valley.

The air takes on
A chill as night descends,
Summer is gone now
And fetid nights are but
A memory of a season past
Moving toward autumn
But slowly, summer still
Reigns during the day.

Indian summer, leaves
Still green and cool,
Chilly nights, sweater nights,
Cashmere and wool.

Night time comes sooner,
Sooner shall
Reign the moon
Wild geese fly south
I hear the call of
A lonesome loon
Echoing across the
Wetlands, lowlands,
Down by the river,
Winter shall be here soon.
