The Sound Of Your Voice

Author: ustju

The sound of your voice echoed through the cavities of my mind
It gave me hope, filled me with desire to live,
And made me wish for a better future to come.
But that surge of volcanic excitement soon died down
And left me void of all willingness to trudge through this life
Making my senses go weak and my brain go numb.

Then stood I upon the highest mountain and surveyed
The earth below me as the sun rose in the distance
Promising a brand new day to my hungry heart …..
But now I have fallen into nothingness
Deep down into the abyss of a lonely life
Of which hunger and despair form an intrinsic part.

Only YOU can free me from my bonds of solitude
Only YOU can give me nourishment and solace
Only YOU can elevate my soul to heights unknown
But you have chosen to discard my love
Refused to acknowledge the warmth of my words,
Ignored the amorous seeds that I had sown.

Is it because I am an earthling not worthy of such a divinity?
A creature so base in form and essence
A wretch that is left with but one choice
To merely look upon the beauty of such a deity
And live an eternal life of fantasy and desire
And be appeased by even the slightest echo of your voice?
