Poem for a girl who did not deserve it
Author: RuiCarIf to worship your beauty is a sin
Let God and angels condemn me 1000 times
The crime is perfect and the punishment lenient
If your skin is white like smooth snow
And your lips even more smooth so
How could I negate them, even if blinded?
Oh, Lord, take away my eyes
And obscured like Oedipus
I will cross the seas only to adore you
If only the blind can truly hear your voice
Smell your odors, hear your steps
They are the luckiest among the lucky!
If your hair is light like silk
And floats to the whims of the wind
How could I not wish to touch it?
Thirsty for light like Tiresias of Thebes
Oh, Lord, take away my eyes
If strangers who see you daily
Have done nothing to deserve your sight
I shall mortgage the future for one more night
If your lips are pure and your face delicate
Your neck like the cedars of Lebanon
How could I not wish to feel their warmth?
Oh, Lord, take away my eyes
And, wise like poor Temis, blind and impartial
I will elect you the most gorgeous in the world
If the walls of your room know you the best
And hear your tears without ever negate them
What is my human mortality good for?
Let me be punished 1000 times by God and angels
And even if a 1000 times more I will be punished
I shall for ever sin and worship your beauty
The crime is perfect and the punishment lenient
