In thoughts of what once was…..

Author: ustju

Oh how I wish for the sweet state of eternal slumber
Where hopes run dry and wishes nor more knock
At the seat of my heart enkindling my desires.
Then this poor soul can rest of all its dire afflictions
That jeer and scorn and cruelly do mock
The love within and all that it aspires.

Oh how I wish my teeming brain cries “Halt!”
To those cascades of thoughts that permeate
The nooks and crannies whereof it is assembled.
So I may amble in fragrant paths in poesy yet untold
And breathe their scent and thus alleviate
This pain and the love that it resembled.

I have no fear of death and all that it proffers to me
I have no will to linger in this life
Where Cupid rests, his quiver of arrows light.
Come Grim Reaper, wield your scythe and ride your horse
That I may end this hapless, unyielding strife
To kiss away the day and welcome blessed night.
