Jigsaw of Life

There are many pieces in the jigsaw of life
irregular shapes
smooth curves or sharp corners
beautiful colours of surprising hue
scattered pieces
some close to hand
turned around
placed gently down fall into place
a picture emerges
an image is formed
pieces go missing don't want to be found
these are important
they will leave a space
find that missing piece
search everywhere for it
complete the picture
of your jigsaw of life

About this poem:
My Father did jigsaws as a child, I always helped and pieces did go missing, often an important piece of sky, green grass or piece of the ocean. It was often found a long time after, under a chair perhaps when the jigsaw had been dismantled! I thought that this was sad because so much effort had been made to leave it incomplete.

Years later I was reflecting on life and people, how things fit in and how we are all different, I felt lonely and was sub-consciously telling myself I needed to find "my missing piece" the one person that completed my jigsaw of life!
