Stephen King is NOT a writer! He is a hack, at best. Clive Barker & Neil Gaiman has 100 times the imagination & writing skills as him. Kings' wife, Tabitha, is responsible for his first best-seller, Carrie. If not for HER, we would have never heard of him!
Dan Brown's first couple of novels were good now he is writing according to their formula so not so good,
Rowling was brilliant in the Harry Potter series.
But my favourites are: Jane Austen, Charles Dickens of the classics, and Ian Rankin, Mark Billingham, Val Mcdermid, Anne Perry, Peter Robinson, to name just a few.
LadyDiz2: Paulo Coelho is brilliant! Are the other authors on your list translated into English? I can see you and I share the same taste.
Oh yes all of them have their books in English although I prefer to enjoy reading Paulo Coelho and Isabel Allende work in Spanish. Currently reading "And the Mountains Echoed" by K. Hosseini - very deep and excellent read.

I like both Browns, Dan & Dale. Read every Dirk Pitt book by Cussler too! I've read almost everything from the prolific Grafton and Paterson; Tami Hoag from the first; and still look forward to the latest escapades of Dr. Kay Scarpetta by Patricia Cornwall. I know, their modern day trash according to some critics, but I like them anyway! I also read non-fiction political, biographies, Asimov, Camus and Hemingway!
I LOVE TO READ! Period So many books, so little time.
I have been so busy at work (and on connecting singles) that I haven't had time to read a book all the way through - I usually read bits and pieces and think about the topic
right now in my reading cue - Robert Greene "The Art of Seduction" - Henry C. Ellis "Fundamentals of Human Memory and Cognition" Rodney Castleden "The Element Encyclopedia of the Celts" and Walter Mosley "This Year You Write Your Novel"
