sweetiefireball: ahhh...need a lighter side of life in addition to serious poll....anyways am in the midst of this issue also....have an older home....
What year was the house built? Do you have a mortgage? If so, what are the terms of the mortgage, rate, term, fixed/balloon, how much equity do you have in the house? How is your credit?
Is your house in a growth area or is it stagnant or even declining?
sweeper: can be fun bringing your home back to its former glory
sweeper this is very true....but to try to bring it back to where it was when we bought it....at the beg of our marriage....oh my white carpets.....golden fancy drapes.../though i always thought they liked liked they belonged in a funeral parlor!! lol...anyways beautifully landscaped....beautful ceramics ...and gorgeous carpets everywhere....well i have taken out most of the carpets....polishing the wood floors underneath....geez...while i am typing this....thinking is there an inch i haven.t covered at least a few times...but get one part done and thee other needs attention!!! lol the choir is singing too bad for u chick! and i thought those were fairy godmothers need a few of those.....lol
I've always had older homes. I like to "make them mine" with regards to aesthetics. But then, my brother is a contractor and I work with him for many years. I have no fear.
actually ins says to rebuild this home would be a quarter of a million mr ooby dooby....sooooo....the worst remodeling was a decade ago...just completed the whole house....over a course of yrs.,....and a boom there was a major electrical fire....so starting over ...again...color schemes and such...ugh!! anyways,,,,after all of that...having kids and pets and time...hmmmm...which one does destroy more...kids...pets....or time....
One always has to keep up the maintenance in a house but as my house was built in the 50 "s I've had to get the walls attic insulated with that beading thing they drill into the walls, and still I've had mildew appearing on the ceiling wall area of bedroom in the back even after painting it,it was so disheartening so then I found the reason was the vent needed cleaning, .relief. The walls had to be all plastered. When I moved in at the age of 23 and pregnant with my son all I did was tear layers of wallpaper Down,,the house was in a real bad way,me and ex hubby didnt have much money to do things at the time so to save he sanded down the floors and varnished them they are pictch pine with the gaps in between but they came up beautiful,,20 years on at moment I got a stove fire put in they great investment,,,I have a large kitchen the last ten years so that is new to me,haha,,,I have to stop here now about houses I need a break, ..lots luck it's just nice to have a place called home, and a comfortable bed and comfy shoes,if not in one we in the other.

I'm sorry to that sweetie fire, ....yes of course the house holds memories and now especially so you are not travelling,,..you are busey painting etc etc its not Easey to maintain it all on your own but we get there as good as,,,I think when we in the house alot we tend to look at everything and when we busey outside of it we don't dwell on it so much,,I work partime now and my son here back from oz and my daughter too it's like full time work in the home,,sometimes I wish I was just cleaning u after myself, ,they adults they do a bit I suppose, . ,when I ask them. .yes now you have done alot in your home maybe think of a away break,my aunt in England went to turkey this year on her own and met people there but she has always been like that very good on her own travelling..she lost a son at age of 23 my beautiful cousin,,,which was 11 years ago now,,...so she got in contact with people going through the same what she is and Only lately had her house done up and she goes away a few times a year as she gets very good deals...,yes try get away somewhere nice.

Do it up , start with the foundations first followed by the roof , bit in the middle is easy .I have partly done one , pic on the current Aussie comp . Its most satisfying to get part of a project finished .
